New Owner, 2002 TL, 340,000 k
Hi All,
Second post, 3rd week of owning the car. All comments welcome on this, want to know if I'm doing this right, and if I got a good deal, etc.
2002 TL, 340,000 k on original engine. FULL service records. Amsoil in the engine as long as they owned it. I know the P.O. quite well, live 2 doors down from my parents.
Trans has been through issues, fixed once @ 200,000 and, totally replaced w/ mister transmission spec'd trans @ 280,000. From what I can tell, it LOOKs like it has the oil-jet kit.
Body has 2 dents in the rear door from what looks like a kick. Other than that, the body is immaculate (could use a touch up, wax job, etc).
I bought the car for 1500 Canadian, and have put about 2000 into it (rear pads/rotors, front bearings, front pass axle shaft, front bushings, and rear sway end links) All high quality moog parts, not cheapo garbage.
What do you guys recommend for engine service?
It is Amsoil, full synthetic, and it looks like he was using 10w30. Owner advised its not due till Oct, but I drive a little more than he did.
If I change it now, will it harm the oil cycle at all? Start with a fresh slate? Or should I just top it up, and change in October? I've put 2000k on it since I bought it, and another 1000k round trip this weekend.
Trans fluid looks good and pink/red. No black, no smell, looks ok. I know these transmissions are NOT that reliable, but I also just rebuilt my 4spd muncie for about 800 bucks, I've got an in with a trans shop .
The engine RUNS great for 340,000. I have a 76 Nova SS, and before this I was driving a 94 tempo as a daily driver, so I don't have much of a reference to go by. Trans shifts smooth, and I love driving this car. Want to make sure I have it for MANY years. The maint light has come on, telling me its ready for an oil change, but should I be listening to the car, or doing it differently as its synthetic????
3000 for a 2002 acura w/ 340,000, certified and etested. Thoughts???? Concerns??? I LOVE THIS CAR

Change the oil when its due to be changed. You stated the last owner ran Amsoil in it, do you know what he was running for oil change intervals?

Thanks for the reply! Not sure, been trying to get a hold of him, but with my leaving this weekend, and I might not get a hold of him, I'm thinking it would be better to start with fresh oil regardless of what's currently in it?

Also, after going to the amsoil website, it says I should be running 0W20 or 5W20. Currently it has 10w-30 in it? Should I be changing to the 5w or stay with what it has? This is a Canadian Car, I live in Southern Ontario, so our winters are ass biting cold, and our summers are getting hot now too
