Oh No!!! Not the oil question! That's a form of religion to many.
Location (the cold north vs sunny southern CA) and type of car usage (short trips, ling trips) can bring some better opinions. A word of caution - good old PYB (Pennzoil Yellow Bottle) 5W20 will probably only get you to 300k or so miles. If you're looking for 500k and above, go with synthetic.

Ill try to be unbiased of brands:
1.- Synthetic < Because is now dirt cheap no point in using dino oil anymore, For the price of 2 dino oil changes you can have 1 synthetic change and it will protect the engine far better than dino oil.
2.- 5W-20 or 5W-30 < Both will Work fine, Do not use anything higher than 5W is not needed. In extreme cold weather you can use 0W.
3.- Oil Filter < Any will work fine, Higher end filters can keep up with longer change intervals specially for Synthetic oil.
