I am a New Acura Owner and am very excited. 2003 TL-S 71000 miles.
What are some of the items I should look at to make sure I get the best Millage and comfort? Are there any concerns that I should investigate first.

register with acura care and ask if all recalls are done, and if you are part of the trans extended warranty cars
1-800-382-2238x5

Look thru the main thread list- where you posted this- for most common questions

After that long read,, use the specific sections on the main log in page-problems and fixes, performance etc for specialized threads and info

about 97% of questions have already been asked-- from what oil to DIY 6 speed trans swaps.
Welcome and enjoy your new baby, treat it well and the TL will take care of you

dont bother with search-use mouse to scroll down the thread title list!

the main general area list that you are in, and look at the top of the list for the BOLD type names like suspension, problems and fixes,,etc
those are dedicated to that specific knowledge group
what you need to look for on your car-- will be in there- what probs are common, when to do maitenance,, and we have a complete diy thread list,,its 3rd item down on the main list and has a master `link` list to all the diys from oil change to wheel bearings

I learned what I know specific to the TL from azine--hours and hours of azine~
plus a lifetime of working on powered vehicles helps me diagnose problems others have
There are a few of us that are readily available for specific questions not answered in the forums already--you can PM when you have enough time and post as a member.

as for comfort items- change the cabin air filters (comes 2 in a box- they sit side by side)- 30 minute diy- get kneepads! next time will only take 10 minutes

filter set is under 20 bucks at parts stores- I like bosch with `microalergen spray` added, others prefer fram or one with charcoal added to cut down outside bad smells entering the cabin

Supposed to be done yearly and most people find they are the first to change it- dealer gets 150$ for this simple job
there is a good DIY

you are due by miles for ps fluid flush- brake fluid flush and new coolant- 7 years and that stuff doesnt work like new anymore~
normally its ps fluid every 3/36
brake fluid every year or 2 depending on wetness of weather and driving style
it sucks moisture from the air and ruins the fluid- wiki hygroscopic for details

performance- ck the engine air filter, add 1 can Seafoam fuel cleaner to just under a half tank of gas - 8 gallons gas--that stuff really is tune up in a can

70+mile I would (and did on my 01) replace the spark plugs NGK IRIDIUM IX and the car liked it

have the motor mounts inspected- the front and passenger side have a known prob that occurs about 60-70kmiles

beyond that go ck out the thread list and enjoy your baby
register with acura.com owner link- need VIN again, thats your cars account with the corp computers- can look up info and download an owner manual if the car didnt come with one

If you use an internet search with +acurazine.com at the end- it works better than our search

common things to know- trans has 3rd gear clutch pack issues- ck your fluid for burnt smell
register with acura as new owner and get a `recall check` for any `open` (not completed) recalls- there are a few on 03, and a new one on airbag inflator for many of us

and any extended warranty you need to know about??--there is one on the SRS airbag
system to 10 years and one on seatbelt parts 10/150
Need cars 17 digit VIN number for that registration too

transmission

My Vin number on my new car is not in the Vin's listed as problem transmission.
Does this mean I am out of the woods in regards to having transmission problems.

no it means they PICKED the VIN ending number to settle a court case- it had nothing at all to do with a FIX,,never was one never will be!

Was the recall done for external oil jet kit installed?

you called the 800 number and asked?
registered as new owner with them- for future recalls they need your address,
you asked about any extended warranty like seatbelts or SRS (10/150)
there are some freebies for certain vin 02-03,, like timing belt job~
