New Friction/Steel parts for our transmission

Honda / Acura M7WA, B7WA, BAYA 3rd Clutch Part # 1979 | 2000-UP | 10/2006]

Honda/Acura M7WA/B7WA 3rd
Part# 2902 | 2000-2003 | 3/2006]

So does this mean that if I take the 2GTL to a local transmission shop, and they buy a master rebuild kit from a reputable vendor, that I'll have updated friction materials to correct the durability problems?

You should makes sure it is the updated frictions that come with the master kit by asking the store. The frictions have a part number on them so you can verify. When I bought mine, it came with all Raybestos updated frictions except for the 3rd gear which were Altos. Turns out they didn't carry it for the 3rd gear...weird. I ended up buying the Raysbestos 3rd gear frictions somewhere else.

Transtar. That's exactly where I got 'em. Just give them a call. I actually called their location in Anaheim, CA. The lady who helped me was really nice. Her name was Evelyn. They can get you the master kit for a decent price also. I think somewhere around $225-$245. Thats with the frictions and steels. Anyways I paid a total of $17 for 5 3rd gear clutch frictions shipped. The frictions were a little less than $2 a piece. Transtar was the only place that had the Raybestos frictions. I called a lot of places too. After almost 2 weeks of searching I was going to settle with the Altos frictions. I'm glad I found Transtar.

Are you a transmission builder? Who was the maker of the master kit you bought?

No. I'm just a CLS owner who decided to rebuild his own transmission. I bought the kit from AutoMatic Kings. The kit was made by Transtec. The frictions and steels were Raybestos.

Will this solve the third gear problem or just delay it breaking down? I would hope that if this were the answer acura would spend a few more bucks on tougher clutch packs rather then spending the money on giving out trannies by the boat load. Seems to make more buisness sense but who knows. Joe how long have you been running on your transmission? It would be awesome if this were a long term fix but I don't know if I would let any tranny shops around here monkey with my transmission.
