I like the black housing. Way to make it look like the way it would in Japan, if they had the CL's in Japan.

So tell me...clearing the corners is totally illegal yes? Also...is it reversible? Can you put the yellow reflector back in easily and reseal? Lastly (but not leastly ) how are people I see getting the "blue corner" effect on their corners...I mean replacing with a blue bulb I would understand, but that wouldn't make the whole thing look blue would it? And even if it did, and they lit white, isn't that even MORE illegal than doing a yellow light/clear corner...or white light/non-clear corner...?

Not sure about where you're from, but in NY, your turn signals have to be amber. Clearing out the headlight is totally legal, as long as the bulbs flash amber when you're turning. I had the clear bumper lights on my CL, but both the parking lights and turn signals were amber, so I had no problems.....

Astro: Thanks for fixing that link My mistake I'll make sure to link like that in the future.

Everyone:

Clearing the front lights is in face legal provided that the bulbs are amber when lit. For those who want to take a largely easier approach to getting a cleared effect w/o having to dissasmble your lights, Phillips makes a bulb called "Silver Vision" which is a chrome plated light bulb that appears chrome in the housing, however, when illuminated it glows amber like factory amber bulbs. They will give a great appearence and I am trying to find them online to buy, but in the meantime I have the PIAA Platinum bulbs in there. If enough people are interested maybe Tim could be able to get some as they are seemingly difficult to find in the wild LOL

They can be hyperwhite too. But in the Bronx, cops don't care. People have red, green, blue. its just one of those things that if the cops out to bust your chops, they will. But NYPD DOT people pretty much say they can technically bust you if its not amber or white or like orange.

I posted this in a similar thread a few weeks ago:

As some have pointed out here, clearing the headlights or sidemarkers themselves is not illegal. However, per DOT requirements (and that's federal so it applies to all 50 states) a car must display (read: reflect) orange from the front and red from the rear at night without power. This is so if your car is broken down on a dark street and you battery is dead, if someone approaches your car from the front, side or rear it would still be visible and hopefully avoid a collision. Also, the orange reflection has to be visible from a certain angle on the side at the front and red visible from the a certain angle on the side at the rear (like side markers). That's why you have the orange reflector bit in the '02 marker lights. The orange bulb satisfies the DOT requirement for orange on front/side under power and the reflector satisfies the requirement when the car is off. This is also why clear tails can be illegal. Having just red bulbs under clear tails is illegal. You need to have a DOT-certified reflective lens back there as well. Look at the IS300 tails--it's a clear outer lens but the actual bulb is covered by a smaller red lens (to satisfy the DOT requirement).

Some places/jurisdictions either don't know or don't care about the DOT requirement, but it *is* illegal and you can be cited for it. Now if you go out and get yourself some of the 3M Scotchlite reflective orange tape (that's certified by the DOT) and put a spot the same size as the reflector on your bumper just below the light then this would also satisfy the requirement. However, I think this would look far worse than the reflector in the housing.
