New Bulb from Sylvania!

Check it out...its called SilverStar High Performence Halgoens and they have a color temperature of 4000K!!! That just about matches standard HID color. Sylvania claims these bulbs produce 20% more light vs. standard halgoens too. I think I have found what I need for my fogs!

I ended up calling Osram/Sylvania directly. The new bulbs will be available mid-late November and the first stores to get them will be your local Auto-Zone. Price is expected to be approximately $50/pair.

Cool.

I also got an e-mail from the OSRAM SYLVANIA Web site feedback center.I asked them which are the closest buld to the Acura HID's.

This is what they told me:

Jessie,

First of all, thank you for your inquiry. This division of OSRAM SYLVANIA does not supply the HID to Acura. It may be our German division. If you would like to contact them directly, here is the telephone number:

Customer Service Center
OSRAM GmbH
011 49 18 03 6 77-2 00

If the lamp in there is indeed a 9006, then there are several options available to you.
9006LL which is the Long Life version
9006XV which is the Xtra Vision
**coming soon** 9006ST. SilverStar. This is a new product line which is scheduled to be release in November. This will be a halogen replaceable capsule that has a much higher color temperature. The color temperature on the SilverStar, which gives you the bluish color like the HID, will be 4000 Kelvin, which is comparable to the XENARC HID Upgrade Kit which is 4100
Kelvin. What you get is a replacable halogen capsule with the look of the HID.

As far as the cost, the final cost is set by the distributor. But we believe that it will end up being approximately $25.00 per lamp.

Hopefully I have been of assistance. Please feel free to contact me again if you need additional information.

Best Regards,
Lisa Howard

that's pretty cool .. i just hope sylvania hasnt gone the rice way and made these look like HID rip-off looking bulbs .. they do have a better reputation though so i hope it'll actually look white... i love my cool blues..... one thing for all of you - if you look at their web page, do not believe those pics of halogen / cool blue / silver ...... the pics are obviously color corrected and even if not, dont forget the difference a housing makes on the apparent color of the light .. i have cool blues and they look NOTHING like that pic they have

I had Cool Blue bilbs on my old camry and they were very white. They were a great upgrade from the standard dim yellowish halogens that were stock but in no way were they close to xenon color or even blue.

Fiddler,

You're absolutely right about the Cool Blues color. The ones on Sylvania's web looked much whiter than the ones i tried. I found em to be not too much of a difference with stock bulbs, so i returned em for what i got now.

Hooked2tl,

what is Eurolite Xenon Fusion Highbeams and how are they compare to the HID head light in terms of color?
Were they whiter than Cool Blue?
How do you like them?
How much were they?
Where did you get them?

Thanks

SSK,

Sorry for late reply, i only saw your questions today. The Eurolite Xenon are definitely whiter/bluer than the Sylvania Cool Blues. I originally bought the Cool Blue's for about $24CDN a pair, but found them to be not much of a difference with stocks. I returned them and got the Eurolites for $35CDN a pair and they're a better fit for the HIDs. They're whiter and bluer than Cool Blues without looking rice for $5 CDN more each than the Cool Blues. I got em at a local accessories shop up here. They're made in Korea.

Anyway, they're not too expensive and they're a big improvement over the stocks or the Cool Blues.

What would one must do to achieve the uniform look of HID headlights, high beam, and fogs? Obviously the headlights are already HID but which bulb would I have to purchase to get all the lights to look uniform?

I think a bulb with a higher color temp will produce a brigher, whiter light than the OEM bulbs....assuming they're filled with Xenon.

what do you guys think, sylvania silverstar vs. piaa plasma?
which do you think will last longer? how about quality comparisons between piaa and sylvania? which do you think would match better to stock HID's?

Called Sylvania

I spoke with Sylvania about these today. They say they have shipped product to Advance Auto and AutoZone. The Customer Service Rep had this information at her fingertips which really surprised me. According to Sylvania, AutoZone should have them on the shelf December 3 (next week). No info from them on when Advance Auto will put them out.

I then called the local AutoZone and Advance stores. AutoZone had not heard anything from their corporate office but knew what I was talking about. Apparently, someone else had called earlier. Advance had no knowledge of the product. Still nothing on the web.

Not much info but it seems like progress is being made.

Thumbs up

I actually logged on to ask what I should replace my fog bulbs with to match the headlights. Seems like the jury is still out on this one. I am going to try and find these new sylvanias, they sound pretty promising. Whoever finds em' first be sure and let us know how they look.

I got these in my fogs, they are almost a perfect match to our HID's when they turn white. they burn at 4100k thats 100 more then sylvania silverstars. i found them on this site for 55.95 for a pair (CM-BG604) is the bulb number.

2k2 TLS,

Hi! Do you have pics of this? I would be interested in seeing how close they are to the HID headlights.

BLUBYU,

I also live in the HSV area and hit all the AutoZone and Advance AutoParts last night. No go... none of them had those bulbs YET!!! I guess it is wait and see now. Keep this board posted if you find them in our area and I will do the same. Thanks.

I would have to say...the bulbs are white...but they in no way get close to matching the blue of the HIDs...not even close.
