Thanks hzm82.
Got my lights working, I had the positive and negative wires reversed. Once I changed them they work great!

Does this setup look right? What amp fuses should i use for the inline and for the add-a-circuit?? The cig lighter plug has a 1A fuse inside, do i need to add 1A inline fuses after i cut the cig lighter plug before i connect then in parallel?

One question, are this neon lights affecting the stereo as far as humm or any other noise? I know for a fact that neaon lights unless you use a filter inserts noise.

Two part question here:

1) Could someone post instructions on how to wire-in a switch

2) Is it possible to wire the lighting to the dimmer switch that controls the dash lights?

Hey, I tried the diagram I posted above and it worked with the switch. I will look into the dimmer soon. I just bought a regular switch with ACC/Power/Ground.

why do you guys intend on making your classy, cool looking tl into RICE? I dont think that looks good at all, if youre gonna do that, go ahead and put the lighted washer fluid dipenser and put GTR right next to ACURA TL..... The TL is way to classy to look like that.... but thats my opinion.... if i see it too many times, knowing me, ill probably stick some one mine....

While ur at it, could you send me the detailed instructions to shynyer@hotmail.com. I went to Walmart this weekend and I think many people are doing this because ALL the 10" sticks were gone! Thanx

It might be a good idea to just put the instructions in this thread or as a sticky. Just an idea............

Gee, I really don't know. Why don't you install something and be the first on your block to have your engine bay look like Times Square on New Years Eve!!

Sorry for the delay you guys. Here are the instructions for the footwell lighting. This is the first free moment i had to dig through the files on my old comp. It's a .DOC file, i'm serving it off my Yahoo! Breifcase account. Please tell me if it doesn't work.

update:
I've swapped the blue neons out with White Cold Cathode Florescent Lamps (CCFL). These are just like florescent lights, but a minature version of them. They are VERY bright, you can get them from any online computer mod store or your local Frys or Micro Center. I'll try to get pics up ASAP

Well I installed the blue cathode tubes in the front footwells and I must say these are really nice. They are not a bright blue that I was afraid of. They go well with the rest of the blue interior lights. I installed them so they would be more of an ambient light rather than a bright light. I wired them to the dome light circuit so they come one when the doors open and fade out when the doors close. I still plan on wiring a dimmer to it. So this project is not quite over yet. But at least phase 1 is complete and working well.

A dimmer would be good if they stay on all the time. Did you hook up a switch to have then on all the time? I am going to try it this weekend.

btw, which are better the cathode or neon tubes?

I was going to try and put a switch but I decided to a dimmer is what i really want. I figured with a dimmer, if I dont want them on, I can turn it all the way down. If I want them on, just turn it up somewhat.

I have a rheostat that I bought from radio shack. Once I figure out how exactly to do this, I will attempt it. Good luck and let me know how things go!!

Yes, that is the diagram to install neons or CCFL. It will work for any type of lighting.

Yes, you ground the wires to the frame of the car. No it doesn't shock ppl who touch the car. Your car is already grounded. There is no current running through the frame, which is what shocks you. Your not doing anything different then what the car is already doing.

Yes, as long of you tap into the 2 wires i instructed in the instructions and in the diagram, the light will come on with the door opens and the dome will also turn on in the door position. They will also dim along with the dome light.

It's pin 2 and 3 (1 being closer to the bottom and 4 closer to the top). As in the diagram, postive goes to the White/Blue wire. and the negative/ground goes to black white wire.

The dimmer is a good idea if you plan to keep them on all constantly. I tried this and it became a distraction to me, that's when i installed a on/off switch. You could use a rheostat or a potentiometer, which are about the same.

The problem that i might see with a dimmer is that CCFL and Neons are running of an power inverter. So even the slightest change in input voltage will have a major change in brightness. And the operational voltage of the invertor, i think the lowest it can go before it will completely shut off is 10volts.

How do you plan on wiring it?

It depends on what color. For blue neons will be brighter, and CCFL will run a bit duller, but nevertheless, still blue.

For white CCFL will beat any Neon you find in the stores. I bought 3 different wire neon tubes, and none of them are as bright as the white CCFL.

Reason why i opted for CCFL. 1) they are smaller, so eaiser to mount and hide. 2) White is brighter 3) Cheaper and eaiser to buy.
