Need suggestions on how to apply touch up paint...
Sorry for venting here. I was backing out from a parking space and hit a shopping cart. For some reason, it caused a pretty deep scrape that is about 1 inch long. Fortunately, it is near the lic. place area so that it isn't that noticable say versus near a smooth area - like a door ding.
I would like to blame the high trunk line of the TL, but it boils down to me for not looking. Part of me thinks the punks who were approaching my car pushed the shopping cart towards my car since I didn't see it any cart when I approached my car earlier.
I think touch up point can mask it. I never used it before on a car, should I get some fine sandpaper to smooth out the scrape before applying?
Thanks!

similar situation happened to me also over the weekend.. I parked my car and a shopping cart rolled down and hit my bumper and caused a little scrap of the paint.
well I used a toothpick and slowly applied the paint cause I think it's easier then applying it with the applicator cause i dont wan't a big blop of paint on the bumper...
hope this helps...

Two more suggestions,
Use a match trimed at an angle to provide a sharp point
or
get a fine art paint brush from a craft store
I am getting ready to fill some rock chips myself

The person at the parts counter at the Acura dealership told me to shake the paint until I thought it was really thoroughly mixed and then shake it for five minutes more. Just a hint from your friendly neighborhood Acura dealership on how to fix their crappy paint jobs! %^&$%^%

Metallic paints are harder to touch-up because chances are that you won't get the metal particles to line up just right with the surrounding area. Best thing to do is shake the paint for 5 minutes before you apply it. I just applied touch up paint to several spots on my car today using a toothpick instead of the cap brush. It's far from perfect, but only a picky owner like me would really notice.
