I own a 99 TL Silver and ebony interior 95k miles good car no tranny work on it and hopefully it will stay that way for at least another 95k. Lol
The warranty of course as everyone knows only goes to 100K.
I don't want to spend 3 grand or more replacing the transmission out of my pocket.
I rather spend the money on getting probably a newer TL.
How are the 3 series BMW's 330 2k1 or 2k2? Reliable? are they faster than the TL?
I have no experience with them so hopefully someone can help out.
I was thinking of getting a Type S with Nav.
Either White or Agean or Silver either of them have to be ebony interior.
Anyone have pics to share with these colors mentioned above perhaps with chrome wheels?
White probably get's the most dirty which color would go longer without a carwash? Which would look even nicer with a full detail job?
Any pros or cons with this decision?
I would really appreciate some feedback on these topics
Thanks

I too have a 99 and thought I could share some thoughts with you...
1) with 95k on the original tranny with no problems, have you thought that maybe you got a good one that will last for another 75-100k miles?
2) I realize you dont want to spend 3G's on a new tranny but why think about that before the problem even comes up. Each of the othe3r cars that ou mentioned are *substantially* more then 3G's. How could you easliy part with that money yet hold on to 3 grand so tightly to reapir a car that you may already own.
3) If you are worried about the Acura tranny's I would think that the TL-S would not be a good choice. From what I have seen on the board, it seems that the 01-03 models have a lot more tranny problems then do the 99's. That may just be my own oberservation though.
I thought a lot about these issues as I approached the 100k mark on my 99 as well. I just figured that if the tranny goes, I rode the car as far as i could without spending a ton of money. If not, then all the better.
Does this make sense???

I totally agree with Axe,
The clutch packs, which from everything I've heard from Acura techs are the problem with the 01-03 trannys. The CPs in the 99 are different (4speed vs 5speed) and have not had many problems. My 99 is hitting the 60,000 mile mark and I've had no problems.
I say hold out, drive the car and enjoy it.
