Need quick opinions on this tranny replacement quote please

Your ol Uncle Jitty just got quoted $2700 to replace my transmission by Acura dealer with 3/36 warranty. They gave me 30% goodwill. After calling around to other dealerships and local shops, this is by far the best deal so far. I have also called Acura Care and pleaded my case..they won't budge. My car has 131K miles. My first trans went out at 40K, this one at 131K...so 90K on "new design". Not bad given the history of our cars trannies. But, before i drop this cheese, I just wanted to see if I have exhausted all tricks to get a better deal. I decided to not mess with six speed swap either.

Damn Jitty, that sucks. I paid the same amount at Mile High Acura not too long ago. It was the best price I got too. I say do it. Mine failed at 120K.

actually, other than the getting the first tranny being replaced in denver back in 2005, I have not had any issues with the car at all. I haven't had to use the dealership here in Atlanta for my TL yet. That $2700 is the out the door price btw.

Why not just get a Used 06 Accord Tranny for that Money???
Are they That Expensive??

EDIT: Found a 08 Accord Tranny w/23K for 1300 Shipped I just dunno if it will fit a 2G TL.

I just got done with a 50/50 and paid 2200 to the dealer (including ECU and 3/36). I would go for it, since it has the 3/36.

A trusted Trans shop that knows about TL's trannies quoted my 2800 for a rebuild.

With the final version of the factory-fixed tranny and Acura-backed warranty, go for it.

i appreciate the input folks. It has been a while since I have looked deep into the transmission threads on what has been going on these days since I thought I was in the clear.

The first time it went at 39K or so, the tranny fluid looked like oil when I did the drain and fill and a huge amount of metal shavings. About 2K later after a drive in the Colorado mountains, it went tango uniform.

I just did a 4x3 drain and fill about 6 weeks ago and the first drain looked really good with no smell or anything. So something failed quickly on Thursday. It basically shuttered for a second, then about a mile later it really shuddered and all my lights came on. It got stuck in 3rd gear I believe, but I knew what time it was. Luckily I could still drive it and it didn't lock up in the middle of the 8 lane highway I was on here in ATL! Got off the exit ramp and stopped at light. I turned off car, waited a sec and then started it back up. Only my CEL was still on after starting it backup, but the car would at least shift again and made it the rest of way to dealership. They just told me "internal failure" but they don't know what exactly went wrong. But I literally had no warning. I really can't complain, it lasted 50K miles more than the first. I'll call my svc advisor tomorrow and tell him to go forward with replacement. 3 year warranty timeframe is a long time for me to figure out what I will do with the Ackniculous One.

Thanks again folks!

got your message - I say do it. No real repairs or maintenance since I've known you - the engine is still good and will last you the 3 years you have on the tranny. 50/50 would have been better though.

if I were a baller like uncle jitty, I'd pay with the money from my left front pocket - never even touching the wallet.........
