Need Help Fast!!
Need Help Fast!!
I just did a transmission fluid flush on my lil bro's Infiniti QX4. I filled it back with 2.5 quarts of ATF. I am now doubting myself as to whether or not that was enough. I saw some people say something like picking up 10 quarts or something like that and am doubting myself. I tried looking everywhere for the correct amount but can't find anything. Can someone help?
does he have a manual?? not all cars are the same as the TL's 3 quart drain. most drain the full amount when you remove teh pan/plug.
how much came out? measure that and that will tell you what you need to put in, checking the dipstick will also help

I did it at work at the dealership and it basically drained into a huge catch can the techs been using all day. I checked the dip stick but the ATF fills in through the dip stick and you can't really get an accurate reading. I tried google and everything and found nothing. I need a miracle
Sorry man, you're probably not gonna have any luck if you get the manual. I checked my 98 Pathy manual, and stupid Nissan doesn't specify the capacity - in fact, it has dashed blanks for just about everything except for oil and coolant. I can check my repair manual for the Pathy, but that might be a week cuz I don't have it with me.
Quoting in the DIY section in the manual for ATF changing:
The fluid level should be checked using the HOT range (L & H marks) on the dipstick at fluid temperatures between 122 and 176 *F (50 and 80 *C) after the vehicle has been driven approx 5 mins in urban areas after the engine is warmed up. The level can be checked at fluid temps between 86 and 122 *F (30 and 50 *C) using the COLD range on the dipstick for reference, after the engine has been warmed up but before driving. However, the fluid level must be rechecked using the HOT range:
1. Park on level surface.
2. Start engine and move the selector to each gear range ending in P.
3. Check the fluid level with the engine idling.
If the vehicle has been driven for a long time at high speeds, or city traffic in hot weather, or if it is being used to pull a trailer, the fluid level cannot be read accurately. You should wait until the fluid has cooled down (about 30 mins)
4. Remove the dipstick and wipe clean.
5. Reinsert and read.
CAUTION:
Do not overfill.
Use only Nissan Matic "D" fluid.

Found it! I think the capacity is 4.5 quarts. Check the thread though cuz they were discussing a tranny flush and there are two contradicting numbers 9 and 14 quarts for the tranny flush:

These guys are all about doing it mutliple times to completely flush the system, oh well, I went with 3.5 quarts, drove it around, all good in the neighborhood. Check the dip stick not too long ago, looks fine to me. If trans blows, warranty! Truck was purchased used at a Honda dealer and covered by an extended warranty sold from Honda called Complete Care. If the transmission blows because I didn't put enough fluid, I don't think I will get any trouble from Honda for covering it, because I work there. Everything should be fine though.
Thanks guys for all your help and effort. Much appreciated.
And t0ast, yea I was looking at the Infiniti manual, same thing. Piece of shit good for nothing manual.
