I need advice on if I should try fixing this 2002 tl up or let the man scrap it. It has 120k on the motor and brand new transmission. The car has been sitting for months if not a year or more because the owner is sick and can’t leave the house. While sitting the sunroof drained must of got clogged or seal bad and water got in the car and still gets in. Mold is in the car and floorboards wet. He said I can have for free, is it worth trying to fix up or no

Jump it and drive it first. If it runs and drives ok, why not? It's free!
If anything, you could sell it for $500 on Craigslist.

Fix it! At least check out how many things you need to fix for inspection before dooming it to junk. It might end up being a flip situation where you fix it to get it rolling and turn it into cash.
Good Luck.

Jneil; if you have the time, the funds and the patience to fix it up, go ahead.
if you dont have any of those luxuries; then of course it wouldnt be worth it..
it's all up to you and your skill level and of course money.
because we can sit here and say; yay or nay...but if you dont have any of the luxuries i mentioned then there would be absolutely no point if you cant work on it yourself, if you dont have the money to buy parts, if you cant find a seller to sell it to.
sometimes; it's not about money....sometimes it's an emotional buy.
if this car makes your pants tight and dont care how much money you throw into it...and would like to keep it as a project car to "save it", sure...but again.. it all revolves around you and your wants and needs.

Also, judging by the front end, that's not a 2002 TL.
It's a near twin of my LGM 2000 TL, just missing the NAV.
If it runs/drives & the sunroof leak is an easy fix. Strip it down & clean the interior, then drive or sell/profit.

what I meant was I have the ability and time to fix it, but wanted advice if the cars value would be worth the parts and time put into it to possibly flip or just in general Originally Posted by justnspace

if you have the ability to score parts on the cheap, or if you KNOW you can flip it for a certain price....
buying, fixing cars and then flipping it is a skill.
if you dont have that ability, no one on the internet can tell you if it's worth it.
as we dont have the car in front of us. we dont know what is wrong with the car. we dont know how much money you'll need to throw in. we dont know if you'll be able to sell it for a certain amount of money.
If you are confident that you can do it, Flip it!!!

the only way i'd take on the project is if I am confident that it only needs $500-1000 in work. if it needs MORE than that, there's no way in hell i'd take on the project and potentially lose money.
put another way; If I can walk away with $1000-1200 or more after the flip, it was a good buy.
if i'm only netting $800 or less...it was not that great of a deal.
sometimes, these kinds of project only needs investment in time to get it cleaned up. would be a super deal!

For interior mold, take a pass; remediation sucks. My take is that car is worth more if parted out.
