Nee "updated" tranny jerk's after changing gears??

Im on my second tranny, it only has like 10,000 miles on it. It's the updated one. When just cruising the tranny is smooth. But when I gun it from a dead stop the tranny jerks rite after it changes gear. Or under hard acceleration, it feels as if someone just hit me from the back. Happends from 1>2>3 is this normal "Honda" tranny behavior??

LOL I hope not... I have the same thing going on my transmission and it's and updated one as well. I have 15k on mine, I was thinking of calling Acura see if they can look at it. Plus I have also connected the obd2 meter and it came up with codes.

It feels weird as fuck, it like someone tapped me from the back followed by a jolt forward. It's pretty noticeable. I thought it could be my motor mounts, but since other memebrs here are having the same problems i've ruled that factor out. This also happens to me on rolling stop signs, where u just cruise to one at about 5mph not touching the brakes and then give gas the car will jerk forward.

I got my car at 66k miles on it and have just over 70k miles on it, there was a new tranny put in at like 57k miles on it and just took it to the dealer to get something done and they say i need a new tranny, i think the life for these "updated" trannys are less then 12k miles!

If your replacement trans is anything but butter smooth
with the exception of when cold start or racing type shifts,
It needs to go back to the dealer

There may have been a bunch of Monday transmission rebuilds!

Racing type shifts??? What does that mean switching gears at redline? When i drive the car normally the tranny is dead smooth. But when it shifts after vtec or near redline it jerks.

He was talking about when its cold or the trans is cold it will shift harder/firmer due to the added line pressure in the trans from the thicker fluid.

If you dont like it bring it in. Its not supposed to do that.

I am buying a friends 01 TL and last night I was driving it and noticed the same "jerk" when it was shifting. It was most noticable when I was at full throttle, but there were other times when it wasn't. It would upshift somewhat hard when i wasn't on the throttle and just coasting. Should I be worried about it?

My 2002 TL-S does it too.

But, I like it !!!! It is like an afterburner has been activated, or as others have said it is like a catapult.

That "jerk" does contribute to the acceralation !!! As I am at WOT, I notice a huge inrush of acceralation like Star-Trek's warpspeed after that baby shifts-n-jerk. "It's not a bug; It's a feature".

I am always reminded of this avatar

when it happens. This avatar is very representative of how it feels. It shifts, then it thrusts forward.

One note, when a dealership replaces a transmission under the recall they are not even allowed to open it up to fix it, they just ship it back to Acura for a rebuild. In fact Acura will not send the new one until it receives confirmation that the old one has been shipped. Just a little FYI.

Lucky me, they ordered mine on Saturday, so my 2-3 business days didn't start until today.

I meant No disrespect to fsttyms1 when I referenced his avatar. To be honest, I often wondered if the avatar was meant to represent the trans "jerk".

Just an honest discussion. No disrespect is intended to fsttyms1 or his avatar.

Yeah mine does it too. It jerks a little worse then the old one did even. One thing I have found is I have to let the car warm up. I cannot accelerate hard for at least a few minutes. If I am really really soft on the car at least until the temp gauge reaches operating temperature then the jerk is not nearly as bad.

yeah, that's what i figure...but after a while of driving, particularly when i am going downhill and slowing down, that is when i feel it the most even though the car is warmed up. Not as much uphill though.

Yep the only time I notice a big jerk is when I'm just about WOT. Other than that is shifts pretty smooth, even when it's cold.

out of the people who feel that little jerk are you leaking any tranny fluid? I'm Going to get my car back from acura today (new tranny) because they said it was leaking tranny fluid.

I was also feeling a little jerk but nothing noticable where I thought I needed a new tranny, maybe if you see some fluid you can take it to acrua service and they will replace your tranny as well?!??!?

nope. no leaks whatsoever. But I am out of the warranty anyway as I am about 129k and I had mine done at 99k right before it expired. I guess 30k miles is too much to go back and try to get them to replace it again huh?

I think each transmission comes with it's own 36k warranty as well, you may want to check into that. Btw, I know this is off topic, what the hell is WOT? I've seen it on several threads and I've searched and it's driving me nuts. And while I'm at it what is FI?

If you feel it while going down hill and slowing its normal. Its the grade logic thats designed to slow you

02tlsfan, wot is wide open throttle (ie. flooring it), and FI is forced induction. And I think i will check into that 36k warranty on that...can anyone here verify this?

fsstyms1, so the slight jerk i feel going into second on a downshift going downhill is the grade logic? is it supposed to feel slightly jerkier than normal?

most likely. I dont know exactly what your feeling to know if its normal or not. all of mine did to a point while decelerating /going down hill.

I don't know if this will be detailed enough for you, but when I am slowing down going downhill, and it is about to shift from 3rd to 2nd, it feels like someone tapped me from behind at about the same rate of impact as if I were parked and they hit me at about 5mph. I jerk forward for less than half a second, it downshifts, and then it's smooth again. It feels almost like the "wobble" of the torque converter, except it only jerks once and instead of being a softer lolling back and forth a la the torque converter, it's more of a sudden and light clunk...

If it makes anyone feel any better, my new 2006 TL has the same grade-logic jerks. Even the slightest downward slope will produce random kicks and jerks. But, hell, I don't mine because I know that it's just that grade-logic stuff "kicking in" [pun intended]. Ride'em Cowboy !!!

So is that 35k mile warranty on a new replaced tranny legit? I got mine replaced at 99k and now have 129k...if I really can take advanatge of the warranty then I have 5k do to so!

The replacement warranty is based on amount of customer co-pay

free- 12m/10k
1 extra year per 1000 the customer pays up to 3y/36

Any unusual problems should be discussed IN PERSON WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER
Ask them to go for a test drive with you
Mention acurazine
Good Luck!

Well, the rep that told me about the 36k warranty no longer works there, that should have told me something...

I did get my car back today with a new tranny and it is smooooth. I also had them replace the rear moan seal, paid for the seal and 1/2 of labor, about $67 total. Not too bad, saved myself a few hundred dollars down the road.

My tranny is bi polar. Some days it can be REALLY smooth and you dont even know its shifting then other days its not as smooth. I know your all going to say different conditions. Well this concept also applys to driving to and from school which i take the same way every day.

Ditto! Mine is like that as well. Especially since it has gotten a little warmer...it's been a little smoother and quicker to start up (naturally), but will still do that every so often.

01tl4tl, do you mean that every 1 year you want added to the tranny warranty=$1000? Seems like I may as well pay for a new tranny if thats the case...

yeah and the worst part about this too is always love to shift smoother then ever when its at the acura dealership. I just hope if it goes that it goes before the warranty is up.
