Navigation Question
i know this is a rather redundant question and i did do a search before posting cause i still wasnt clear.
Since i bought mine used i have no idea what the previous owner did to the screen its kind of rough even after i just got done cleaning it it has stains on it but the problem is that they are on the inside !! like somone using a harsh cleanser to wipe tints is there any way to fix this ?? is there a just a front glass that can be purchased ?
Another questions to the veterans is what is your trick of keeping the navi screen clean ? except for "Dont use it "
cause i hate the way it look in daytime i can see all kind of smudge marks on em. Thanks

My screen is now just over 4 years old. It's been great. But I recently discovered the "glass" has a anti-glare tint on it. And in two spots (the center and lower left corner) it's starting to wear off....I only used the blue cloth included with the car and very rarely some video display cleaner and wipe (never kleenex or paper). Wonder what Acura gets for a new "glass"?
It was about 50-50 when I decided to work on this problem. Half the screen glare coating was worn off.
So I went ahead and removed the anti-glare coating and though the screen is shinier and somewhat harder to read in full sun, it looks damn pretty!!! And resists finger prints and cleans faster.
I had been using "wet" computer screen cloths to clean it over the years and at times armor all very very lightly on a cloth to dust the dash and wipe down a few areas. Turns out the two chemicals together will disolve the glare coating.
I figured this out since the most wear was at the place I press ok and setup every day. Setup because I run with day time headlights and have to toggle the screen brightness. I was getting the silicone on the screen from transfering it from other parts of the dash.
To get it off I put some armor all on a soft cloth and wiped down the whole screen, wiped that off with the computer screen wipes. Repeat. You can scrub pretty hard, it's just glass after all. There is now not one scratch on my display.
The wipes I use are found at Office Max or Staples

for those who want to avoid that problem with scatching and smudges, use a screen protector. You can get them from any computer store(they're used for pda's). I have them on my nav screen.

Hey, I just got my Acura Style magazine yesterday (Summer '03 issue)....check out page 60 under "Touchy Subject". It says "The anti-glare coating is part of a film overlay that covers the screen.......if this layer is worn......the recommened remedy is to replace the display. See your Acura dealer". No cost is mentioned.
Also, get this, it's not really a touch screen! You don't have to actually touch it to get it to work...your finger just has to block the infared beams that pass near the surface (presumably they are from LED's around the edge of, and just above, the glass).
Soo.....if it's just a piece of glass or a antiglare film that needs replaceing maybe the cost wouldn't be to bad?

Hey, I just noticed, on the same page is a question from an MDX Navi owner wanting to know when the next major update is.....Acura says "A major update is planned this fall that will greatly expand map coverage and the database of points of interest."
Wonder if "greatly expand map coverage" includes "Canada"? ...probably not.

Yep, you can't replace it. Its like what happened with my headlight... just the plastic clear cover was cracked... but it cost me 400 bucks... grrr... You have to basically buy the whole unit.
