As mentioned above, there is absolutely no monthly charge for the Navigation system and if you so desire, you could get the updates once a year for about 150 dollars. I plan to get an update maybe once in 3 years or so, since most roads/restaurants/shops etc are not going to be re-named within one year !!!

The 2000TL & newer models with Navigation System use one single DVD that stores data for the entire continental U.S.
The updates come out at the fall of the each year. The last update that came out this past fall cost about $150.00
It is up to you when you want to update the DVD.
There is No Fee to use the Navigation System.
You buy the Navigation System in the car & it has the current version DVD. I have a 2000TL Nav purchased on 12/28/99 & did not update the DVD. I plan to update the single DVD when the next updated version comes out.
