Navigation for all you people in NY area

The other day was embarassing for me, when I ahd friends in the car and we had to go to somebodys house who lives in Dix Hills and I couldnt get that to come up on the Navigation. Very embarassing.

Dix Hills is on Eastern Long Island and would think that it would be there on the navigation but it didnt come up. Just wanted to share this with you guys and maybe you didnt know and now you will know not to trust Navigation if goign to Dix Hills.

Often, the names of towns in long island are not listed under their specific town names. For instance, if you want to go to East Setauket, you have to put in Brookhaven.......

or if you want to go to East Hills in Nassau County, you have to put in roslyn.........

dix hills is there, its just not under "dix hills"

As a fellow New Yorker, I'm sure you know that there are many neighborhoods that are known by popular names that are different from their "political" name. Dix Hills I believe is in Huntington and probably the name under which your would have found directions to your friend's house. The next time you're visiting a friend in New York, ask them if their area is know by any other name.

Re: Dix Hills

What a major pain this is. However, I've found that many of the cities are found in this area under Huntington or Huntington Station, NY. Try navigating back from Staten Island to Long Island; the stupid system tries to send you through NJ, then NYC, then Brooklyn. It may be one of the best systems on the market, but I've got to tell you, I've got a problem with it always taking you on the shortest route. In NYC, that's a problem! I guess you've got to use your best judgement.

Dix-Hills might not be listed because it is a higher-class neighborhood and they have specific demands about not having detailed map information....we have a house in upper brookville and there is no detaile dinformation for that area....just like there is no cell signal either because they don't want cell towers in their backyards.
