I don't think the average customer is going to notice the difference. I showed the photos to some of my fellow workers and they thought it hadn't changed at all! They thought the CD changer was worth it for me to wait three months but other than that they didn't notice the changes. If someone has Imspire tails, I think others will think you have the new 2002 TL!

So far the unofficial photos of the TL-s car show that it does have chrome door handles. Guess there are only 499 improvements..

after getting home last night late i was not tired at all, and bored.

sorrry, i know EVERYONE has a life at 3:30am.

it was either sit here and type that, or watch tv, and end up either a AB excersise thing, or a Gorge Formans Lean Mean Fat Killing Grilling Machine.

I beg to differ. No one got it worse than 99 owners. The most major improvements were done only one year after the new design was introduced on the market. Mid cycle "freshenings" are the norm in the auto industry, so the 02's will look almost the same.

Just a thought, why buy a car for resale value? Don't you buy it to enjoy and drive it? Cars aren't good investments.

Not a slam, just my $0.02.

I agree...most people paid MSRP or pretty close to it for the 99s and for the 2000, they not only changed the transmission to a 5-speed one (from a 4-speed), they also introduced side-airbags (all through 99, they were insisting that the car did not need it). Modifications to the 2000 model including a free-flowing intake manifold increased the low-end torque and mid-range power over the 99s even though peak HP and torque numbers remained the same, then the NAV system moved to a faster DVD based system that held data for the entire US in one DVD.....compared to that, the 2002 TL vs the 2000 TL (excluding the TL-s) seems to be just a minor re-freshening (I would not consider a 6-cd in-dash changer or a slightly different front-end/mirrors at the same level as changing the transmission)...

Granted the Transmission thing is pretty significant, I think you're being selective in what you choose as significant. Of course not much changed as far as performance between 2001 and 2002, but there are many other things that I'm sure in monetary terms extends the gap further than the 2000 did over the 1999.

-6 Disc indash changer
-Backup assist rear view mirror
-Auto up drivers window
-Back seat is now 60/40 split instead of just a passthrough
-Headlights, Grill, front air dam, fog lights (come on, if you do a search on 'fog lights' you'd get some 500 hits or so, you know how popular they are on the board, and now that the new TL gets them, you fail to recognize them? please I'd think the only thing more popular are the Inspire tail lights which are also on the new models)
-More aerodynamic rear view mirrors (how many threads have we had complaining about wind noise at highway speeds? Quite a few)
-And I'll bet nearly all of the Service Bulliten issues have been at least addressed with the New TL.

I would be willing to bet that if you asked potential buyers which meant more to them, a restyled front end, or a 5 speed tranny instead of a 4, they'd say the front end. People are vain. The drivers are the only ones who will ever know the 5 speed/4 speed difference. I'm willing to bet that even drivers wives (and husbands I spose) couldn't tell the difference btw a 1999 and 2000... But when you start seeing 2002's on the street, ppl are immediately gonna notice something strange about it... (front end) And perhaps say something like, whoa are those the new TL's?

Just my supposition.

Actually, I think the wives and other non-Tl/Acura folks WON'T notice the difference enough to care. We notice because we are vain and really identify with our cars. The upgrades are really just a makeover consistant with Honda's policy of upgrading midstream. I definitely don't expect Acura to make the same cars 4-5 years running w/o upgrades. As for resale, we still get great resale despite the body change, but I wouldn't let the hit in resale we take keep me from buying another Acura.
Maybe I'm just happy with my car ('99) despite the upgrades with the 2000 & 2002's but the upgrades in the 2002' gave us what we all wanted. Ironic that now some of us are complaining eh? Oh well, I guess that comes with us being so passionate about cars, especially our cars. Reality bites...I just make the best of it and remember how lucky we all really are.
PS- the foglights are kinda ugly, I think PIAA's would be a better way to go. just my .02 pesos

Side airbags and improved torque and horsepower curves are not insignificant changes, especially just one year after release. I do remember the video they had at the Acura dealer playing that said that side airbags were unecessary. That's kind of funny that they were introduced the next year..

Overall the 99 is still a great car. I do like it very much.

I'm not too upset over the new TL. We all knew it would come with the six disk, fogs, clear tails, and there was going to be a type S model with the 260hp. Obviously, it will drop the resale value which happens every time a new model arises. We have all enjoyed our TL's since the day we picked it up which is all that matters. I love bragging about my TL. People dont know my TL's a 99 unless I tell them. They think I just bought it. IMHO, the front of the '02 TL is ok but I'm not a big fan of the huge headlights. I like how our TL's look better. The good thing about our car is it will still look great after ten years. It's kinda like the Legend. I still see the 91-95 Legends on the street and I LOVE how they look.

I really don't like the perforated leather in the CL-S, thats the only reason I don't have the CL wood wheel. Perforated interior would suck IMO, I like the smooth look.

Of course since the TL-S is perforated it will share the CL-S wood wheel... damnit...
