Mystery Mod

Well I finally got it. The mystery mod, you know the one that makes your tranny go "KER-PLUNK".

At 20,000 miles I started hearing a "whining" noise from the gearshift lever area. At 25,500 miles I decided to take it in to be looked at. The dealer immediately diagnosed as a bad tranny.

That was Thursday, I'm picking up the TLS tomorrow, Wednesday. ONLY 6 days of downtime and 4 if you exclude the weekend. Not too bad I guess. I'm just thankful it didn't go out on the freeway and cause and accident.

Hey Baggs, sorry to hear your tranny went south. Haven't seen you post much lately, I wondered just recently if you had given up on this forum.

Are you going to install a cooler or anything to your car with the new tranny? I'd be happy to show you what I did on mine--the bracket I made, and the trans temp gauge I added just last month. Either way, Good luck!

Thanks Diamler. Haven't abandoned the board, just been busy.
I heard from others who consulted mechanics and they were told a cooler will do nothing for our trannies problems. IMO, I would agree it won't do much for this situation. BUT hey, any precaution you take now is a worthy one.

Anyway...not sure how much longer I'll keep the TLS. I'm torn right now on what to do with it. Regardless, we should meet up sometime. Let's get Danny to come out too. PM me and let me know. I think I'll be heading up to SEMA IAS in LA on Saturday this weekend.

I have my new tranny, not sure if it's slipping already or if it's all in my mind. Other than that, it mostly drives "silky-milky" now.

Mine seems to have gotten even smoother over the last week. If not in s/s, I can barely decipher shifting other than the sound...It is quite a miraculous change...
I almost wanna go drive a 2003 and see if it feels the same or not. It's seriously that smooth...
