Post are my wheels the right size?

i bought these 17x7 114x5 rims with 42mm offset from Discount Tire. they told me the rims are a perfect match for my 99TL. now that i've become smarter and more informed after visiting this site, i've realized the offset should be greater. the rims dont rub or scrape or anything. but they kinda stick out from the sides.. esp. the fronts.
do you guys think i should take 'em back and ask them to exchange the rims? i'm getting the comptech springs installed.. will it look cheesy with the car lowered and the wheels sticking out?

Take em back. It will definitely rub if you lower with the springs. If it is already sticking out without comptech springs, forget about it when u drop it.

Offset should be >+45

Nah, it would look tight! Everyone will think you are old school!!

Lowered, and your wheels sticking out the sides?? All you need is some whitewalls!

But really, if you are not happy with them, you should be able to take them back. BTW, what wheels/tires did you get anyway??

wheels sticking out past the fender wall isn't a good idea and it just doesn't look right. you will probably scrape them more on curbs than if the offset was higher.

Plus, in CT, if the tire sticks out past the fenderall you will get pulled over and I believe the fine is $50 per inch per wheel that the tire sticks out. I can't imagine that with a 42 offset they stick out that far though. My friend got pulled over and fined twice before.

I doubt they will take the rims back after they were mounted, but it's worth a shot.

Also, this post would get better responses in the wheels forum, that's where the rim experts hang out.

Good luck!

The addition of springs will not make the tires stick out more on the side, it would only cause rubbing on the inside.
