thats why I stay away from the low profile tires on a daily driver...and the other things just come along with a high mileage car - to look at it the other way, its still cheeper than buying a new car.

Well its not the TL's fault that you keep poping tires. As for the timing belt, i think your safe to not worry about it too much. I have 192,000 on mine and have no intention of replacing it before 200k

Well i didnt j/k Ive owned several hondas and never worried about the belt at that type of mileage. AGE kills the belt more than mileage. I have a friend who has over 400k on his honda and all belts are original. Sure they could break at any time, but so could a new one (which ive seen)

19's huh? So you're probably riding on a 35 series tire.

IMO...I'll never ride with anything below a 40 in a daily driver.

Not only do you have to worry alot, but it'll be $$$ to replace them.

I wouldn't blame that one on the TL.

FYI...I have a 2002 TLS with 102k miles. I'm going to hold off till 120k to do my timing belt. If fsttyms1 goes beyond 200k on his stock one I may push it further.

hmmm....that sounds encouraging about the timing belt...maybe i should wait till like 115 or something

i love the way my TL looks with 19s but i need to downgrade.....untill caltrans fixes these god damn roads i have to much to worry about

i went out to my car this morning and my tire pressure went from 50 to 35...which is not that much...i was expecting a full flat.....i need to find a way to see if the rim is cracked or the tire is popped

The only thing the TL can be held accountable for in the first post is the CEL. The dents and chips and popping tires are not the car's fault.

IS there a way to visually inspect the belt and see if its in good or worn condition???

the dents and chips are from infamous city parking
the rim has been cracked a few times, and ive had it prof. rewelding.

went to a local shop and theres ANOTHER crack in the rim. they guy said that rims are known to simple crack themselves. i might need to buy a new rim, or just get it rewelded again.

the mechanic tried to pull the code but was unable to pull or clear it...no idea why.

yea well i didnt exactly have 1 grand to drop on nice brand new rims...i actually wasnt even planning on upgrading my rims

not sure exactly what im gonna do....i might just reweld the rim and sell them, or just slap them back on my car and pray for the best lol. i hit the twisties pretty hard anc roadtripped to socal doing around 90 the whole way after i had the rims rewelded, so they should hold up decent i geuss. or i can do it ghetto ricer style and slap type S rims on the front and keep 19s on the back hahhahaha. <-- thats a joke BTW

I change my timing belt in my 95 civic at 90k and the belt looked new it covered up pretty well and I keep it outdoors all the time. And it currently has 188k on it and I just change the original clutch. Winter in WI are somewhat harsh but not to bad.

This might sound like an idiot, and I probably am, but what happens when a belt dies? My understanding was that there was just one (serpentine) belt in the TL. Is it the kind of thing where you should keep alert at all times, or just buy a good life insurance policy?

If the timing belt breaks, your engine is toast - the pistons meet the valves.

Well if your around that 100k+ mark you might want to start thinking about saving up to have it replaced. I wouldnt worry about it breaking at 101k. they will last longer than that (unless you have really bad luck and have broken a few mirrors lately) Im almost to 193k on mine.

Bought my TL from a private seller a couple months ago. A 2000 TL with 67000 miles. The previous owner had the timing belt change...so i'm set =P Oh yea, does anyone wants to buy a brand new OEM timing belt for a 99-00 Civic Si? I was going to have it install in the car but unfortunately the Si was stolen. Hope the timing belt on that engine breaks whoever stolen my car.
