my new (custom) exhaust

i was planning on running duals from the headers back. completely true dual system was going to be made by cutting the j pipe from the runner downpipes and connecting them with an H pipe.

unfortunately...my exhaust guy was arrested for fraud the day-of

i decided to save some cash and make a custom 2.5 cat-back with a good Y split and nice mufflers....

oh boy this sounds guuuuuuuuuuuud

gooooodddd

better than any exhaust that are available for 2nd gens imo.

but im biased

pics

damn, that looks nice...any sound clips coming? Im thinking of getting a custom one done myself down the road..are those custom mufflers as well? or just the pipe back? what mufflers did u use if you dont mind asking? I was planning on going with the good ol Magna Flow 14832's as my basic muffler setup, but that looks sweet

I love mine, i saw a good increase in topend with my setup. I would like to change the setup a little to quiet it down a little and put a cat back on to get rid of the rasp but i love the sound. When i do my 3.5 conversion ill probably do a true dual with a X pipe

oh yea man. i no longer have the hesitation with the early vtec engagement (3500rpm) it just zips all the way through.

if youre doing a true dual i would use an H pipe. it sounds better and is less restrictive

What kind of magnaflow mufflers are they?

What size pipes did you use?

What about the exhaust tip? Which one did you put on there?

Nice, really clean work - it actually kinda looks like an OEM set-up. But it does look like the pipes hang pretty low though, or maybe it's just cuz they stand out more...

I have a in 1 out 2 muffler. I think my rasp is a combination of no cat and header. I always got the rasp when i removed the cat.

Its the angle of the pik. In some views mine looks just like that and in others it is tucked up pretty good

Ahhh, I see. That's really nice craftsmanship - many shops around here do really sloppy jobs welding that stuff.

I'm just curious, I live in the northeast - so I'm wondering what's the best material to use for the pipes to fight against rust and damage from salt during the winter? (stainless steel?)

On a side note, I thought that all TL's already have a true dual exhaust set-up. The quads don't release that much more backpressure than what we already have, right? That's what a shop told me when I wanted to do quad tips to get more power.

Stainless steel is the best but you can get alumanized pipe.

Look under the car. We dont have true dual exhaust. We have a single pipe that goes to a Y then to 2 mufflers. And you WONT get more power with quad tips over single.

How is the performance gains from a custom exhaust compared to an aftermarket name brand, like atlp or comptech?

Well according to Comptechs Dyno results, there are no gains, while the ATLP claims some gains, not easy to find a good custom shop where im at to get one done ..wondering if perhaps GReddy has any gains? not really wanting that fart can type a set up, I know they are discontinued for the CL, but i know a place that has one...wondering if i should jump on it or cut the ATLP to fit the CL...

Yeah as soon as I typed that I realized that a true dual exhaust system is with two pipes coming FROM the engine. Curious to see how that could be adapted to the TL though...

But nonetheless, the custom works shown here look very professional Looking forward to the sound clips

Megalodon's Greddy setup

Here's the thread I made after installing a Greddy Evo 2 setup. The first set of pics is before I tucked the tips, and the video/sound clips are before I installed the third new gasket. It generally sounds the same, only tighter and I love the sound, minus some resonance in the lower rpms. The tips are a little big, but I won't be needing to worry about it soon.

Phee that's a nice setup you have there and I'm looking forward to hearing some sound clips soon.

All depends on how its done. Does the shop use all mandrel bent pipe? single pipe or dual like we have? I never dynoed it but i can say there was a increase in upper end power.

i saw a very large increase in power. all this was done to lean out my a/f before tuning is done. if i can get my fuel to behave i can save money and not have to tune.
