My 2003 tl-s aspec
ok so here goes my first of many messages about my tl-s aspec. i'm from canada i know there are only 800 produced tl-s aspecs in canada don't know about other countries though. my friend has a 2002 tl-s non aspec and its really not the same car the interior sucks the suspension is not nearly as performant and well its not even close to being as pretty as mine... but...he keeps boasting that he has the same power as mine and paid less. my question is what can i do to my engine or what engine and tranny can i swap to get 330-370hp with a 6spd tranny keeping in mind that i wanna spend 5-10k and keep it very reliable... also NA is a very important condition cause i dont want mustang joe to suspect a thing when i leave his macho ass at the lights in town. I also would like to know if there is anything i can do to control wheelspin cause 1000hp is great and all but a true acura fan knows a honda can do so much more with so much less.

he is correct in saying you have the same car power-wise..
but anybody with a brain would take the Aspec over a regular Type S any day of the week b/c of the interior goodies and exterior paint extras.
but essentially. thats the only difference... visual stuff. most people change suspension anyway.

Y should you care about the speed, even if he drive the car faster than you people will be looking at your car because it looks better. his car is perfect but your driving perfection.... people want to see the car not a blurr, plus he must have lots of speeding tickets.. fast car more tickets ... unless your on a track.

The interior difference between the A-Spec edition and non A-spec are simply color differences in the seats, panels and trim and purely preference (Among a couple other minor changes). Some may appreciate a simple tan or black interior over a two tone that has a boy-racer blue (I like both interiors, prefer A-Spec). The A-Spec has all those great exterior differences like the stock kit, the color matched door handles, grille trim and headlights, side markers, 3 point wing with integrated lights and all that other jazz which makes it look fantastic.
Essentially you are paying a few thousand more for purely cosmetic differences so he's right in that case.
Your friend is 100% right, his car is IDENTICAL to yours performance wise, so stop arguing with him about it.
I think at this point you're worrying too much about performance and being top dog on the street. There is A LOT of work involved with making the swap you're referring to. I think you could start with some bolt ons that will provide you with some more oomph at less of an expense and down time with your car. Altezza lights are for IS300's ONLY and look like SHIT on every other car that didn't have them stock. Our cars have nice looking tail lights that can only benefit looks-wise from a custom LED setup.
Also, I'd like to say that if you plan on street racing your A-Spec and somehow write it off you're a douche.
If you pursue the swap all the best to ya. As I said, it's a lot of work but those that have completed it are VERY happy with the end result. Not to mention the rest of us envy the extra fun they get to enjoy.

I would like to add since you're a new member, welcome and great to see another A-Spec on the forums. There is a DIY thread and a 6 spd swap thread on the main page of the 2G forum which will basically help you do almost anything you'd like on your TL.
Cheers

Keep it stock, it's a rare car... if i didn't get rear ended :'( i would been a stock A-Spec... now i'm knee deep in mods and trying to keep it fresh...
as hard as you try to keep it perfect tho something bad is bound to happen... friggen fat b!+ches i tell ya. i need one of those "no fat chicks" stickers...
fat chick #1 - rear ended me.
fat chick #2 - backed up off her drive way into my parked car... she had backup sensors like are you kiddin me?
fat chick #3 - Side swipped
Anyways...The suspension has always puzzled me... when the A-Spec first came available, in one of my mags there was a full page ad stating it had some sport tuned suspension by some jap dude and all the other differences compared to the Type-S.... i had the ad in my locker years ago but now it's no where to be found. i guess i'll never find out... so i assume it's exactly the same since there's no proof anywhere... but i do swear i read it!
