My 02TL just had a sunroof rattle at 10K+
I had noticed that my sunroof squeaking when driving on a bumpy road. I found out that the rubber seal around the mooroof class was rubbing against the surround car metal. After searching for lose screws and could not find any I decided to clean the rubber seal with a tire wax (temporary grease) and guess what the squeaking is gone! Do you guys know any grease that is safe on rubber? What about silicone grease? So before you decide to take your car to the dealer to fix this problem try to clean the rubber sealing with some type of grease and I bet you the squeaking will go away. I hope this will save you time to the dealer.

i think i saved more time and effort by taking it to the dealer... i got it fixed when i was getting my oil changed... aint my fault that it squeaks so why do it myself? they just put extra tape around the rubber parts

hchhon, silicone or teflon grease will work to stop the squeaking, but like all grease products it is not a permanent solution. The dealer installs a clear teflon tape around the edges of the metal in the sunroof opening. You don't even see it but it keeps the squeaks away for good. I had mine done July 2001 and haven't had any squeaks since. Plus, the tape won't dry out the rubber gasket, as some grease compounds are known to do. So if you can find some clear teflon tape, do it yourself and save a trip to the dealer. Otherwise, it's worth it to silence the squeak.

I never thought of teflon tape will do the trick. Where can I get clear telfon tape? I want to do it myself if I can it cheap. I don't waste half of my day at the dealer just for a simple fix.

Three Wheelin'
Since its a warranty item, the dealer will probably just give you the tape if you tell them you dont want to bring the car in just for this. If not, go buy it at the parts counter. It cant be more than like $10, since its nothing more than clear teflon tape with adhesive on the back (its basically very durable scotch tape).
