motor oil 5w 20 or 5w 30
my car is a 2003 acura tl s-type. I bought the used one 2 month ago in colorado
the manual sayd the correct oil is 5w20 but the oil cap in my car says "5w 30." the oil cap is wrong? or should I follow the manual? or In colorado, do I need to use 5w 30 oil? thank you |

I opted for 30 but it works either way it depends on temperature really.
|
Weird that your oil cap is different than your manual...
|
someone replaced a broken oil cap is my guess!
5-30 preferred for most temps -- winter is different if you live in sub zero temps |

CAFE = Cant Always Fool Everyone!

there is shit load of threads asking this question. either weight is fine. i find 5w-30 MaxLife Full Synthetic high mileage works best in my car. i like to rev it up a lot and it burns oil with any regular oil (can smell it through AC). not 1 drop with 5w-30 MaxLife Full Synthetic though.

another 5w-20 or 5w-30 thread....damn....dude search !!!
|
the problem is people dont understand which number means what
wiki people!!! |
Pay no attention to the "Another Thread" whiners.
Newbies gotta start somewhere. Besides, the most current opinion will only be found on a new thread. Subaru wants me to take my wife's car in for a computer upgrade. The new program will tweak emissions, but it is claimed that there is negligible effect on performance. Can you read between the lines? So if CAFE is involved, humm . . . I run Mobil 5000 at 7500 intervals. |
between the lines on subaru = running too lean and going to burn a valve if they dont adjust the settings
but thats nothing more than a total guess by me based on years in the industry CAFE doesnt matter once the test are done and published the miles- which are now overridden by a newer method and slightly more accurate on new cars than before saw a great one on `pawn stars`- car catches fire in the parking lot BIG FLAMES owner casually goes to trunk and removes,,wait for it,,,his fireman boots and coat! while watching it burn to the ground waiting for a fire truck, he mentions the car was scheduled to go in for a recall,,, for dash fire issue,,,, the very next day!! Car was destroyed everyone remember to call acura and ck their vin for current airbag inflator recall and possible older recalls never addressed by last owner 800 number needs your address because they send out the cards for recall 1 800 382 2238 x5 usa / 1 888 9acura9 canada |
