more stolen HIDs

Looks like it is happening to the 2002 Maxima owners too.

how are the HIDs taken all the time, how do you prevent this, doesn't our security sys recognize something is happening?

Truthfully...there is no real way to prevent HID theft. The factory keyless entry system only senses when the door is open. So...it can't sense when the headlights are being taken...unless you install shock sensors...etc.

theft of HIDS...

Heard some managers at Acura dealer discussing this...with some Insurance guy...

Thieves drill into the hood, pop the hood and disconnect the battery....ALARM is now worthless.
Now they can leisurely pry bumper off by pulling the bumpers back on the ends...and you have access to the entire light. Very few harware on the ends of the bumper, and clips are weak on the sides.
I have seen several TLs at the dealer with missing HIDs.

I think the best way to help prevent HID theft os to serialize the lights....same way they give half the parts on your car a VIN number ( doors, engine, glass ). That way its hard to resell....

But thats just me talking.
Suggestion to Honda if their reading this.

Caught one of those mother****ers trying to take my HID's. He should have tried with someone else's car. My alarm went off right away seeing that I have shock and motion sensors right in front of the car. When that **** went off I came out only to see him trying to get the headlights off quicker, but instead of taking the headlight he failed seeing that I shot him right in the leg and at his boys car. He failed to get the headlight, but being spiteful he kicked my whole lighting system in and in turn he messed up my bumper and fender. Well anyway, the best thing to do is get a motion sensor right in front of the grill and get a shock sensor also.

I had posted something on this a while back. What sucks for them is they're being taken by their own kind. The '02 HIDs are an *exact* drop-in replacement (housing and all) for the older 5th generation Maximas (2000-2001) that did not have an HID option. We're pissed because ours are getting stolen to be used in other makes and models of cars. Imagine how we'd feel if the first generation TLers were stealing them from us!
