I just got my moonroog rattling problem fixed over the weekend. It turned out that Acura has a kit (tape) for that. It looks like that's a widespread problem, otherwise why would they make a "kit" for that purpose? Why can't Acura just "pre-installed" the kit on every car? It's annoying for everyone to experience the rattling noise and waste time to take it to have their cars serviced.

I agree 100%. It seems like if the dealer took 15 minutes to install the kit on each car before delivery, it could save a return trip to the dealer (and tie up a service tech for longer than 15 minutes).
However, I also believe that Acura (like all car dealers) is in the business to make money and time equals money. Some cars will never develop the squeak, and some owners will never complain even if it does start to squeak. Let's say for argument sake that the tape kit costs the dealer $1. Acura sold 26,520 TLs through the end of May 2002. That means they are on track to sell over 63,000 TLs this year. If they applied the tape to 63,000 cars at 15 minutes a car, that equals:
63,000 cars at 15 minutes a car = 4 per hour = 15,750 hrs labor
Going Acura labor rate = $70 per hour. Assuming it only costs Acura (in salary, benefits and building costs, etc) half the actual charged rate ($35), then it costs $551,250 in labor to apply the kit to every car. Plus another $63,000 in tape, for a grand total of $614,250. Over a half million dollars to stop a squeak that many people will never get nor complain about. I think in the end the money wins out.

I noticed that also. I took my car in for the moonroof rattle. But I also had another rattle, which wasn't addressed. Time for another trip to the Acura Dealer, where their monkey boys can drive my car.
When I was looking up at the moonroof, i noticed the teflon tape, and when I felt around the edge, I also noticed that this was made specifically for that part. so yeah, it's all business... money.
