mold smell

I had water leaking from the trunk. I think a small amount of water got under the rear seat and the rear carpet.

I fixed the water leak did my best to clean but have developed quit the problem with the mold smell.

I had a buddy professional carpet clean the carpets. I headed home a couple hours later and they were damp. I put the mats in the trunk then brought them in the house. smell seems like it got worse?

wife put drying matts in the garage to get the mold smell out of the house.

any tips or tricks to killing mold?

I would like to use a fungal killer, something that will kill the mold dead, dead dead. not just put cologne on it.

everything is dry now but the smell came back with a vengeance.

You have to gut the car and replace the carpet jute.

Shampoo and disinfect the carpet on both sides.

Dry and disinfect the floor pan.

Hang dry the carpet.

Once everything is clean and completely dry reassemble the car.

I appreciate the advice I will start with the baking soda and then pull the carpet if it doesn't solve it.

No not typo. Jute is the proper terminology for carpet pading.

Unless you can dry the jute completely the mold smell will never go away. Depending on how saturated the jute is it may take forever bc the carpet usually has a water barrier on the back side.

The longer you wait the worse the smell will get bc the germs will multiply... exponentially as the tempurature goes up.

If your carpet is "Saturated" then you have to gut the car. Unless you love the smell of wet socks.

I use to be a mold inspector. There is no odor to it. You are probably still smelling damp material.

I bet its the rear seat foam. Foam is a great haven for mold as it sucks up water and travels throughout the material.

lift the rear seat up after removing 3 bolts or so by the seat belt. use extension bars and sockets.

lift rear seat straight up with strength and inspect/clean foam. lysol it heavy or cut away at material even

also fully remove trunk lining if not already

good luck!
