Post Mods or TL-S

Quick Preference Check

Would you rather invest in modifying a 1999 TL or put the money towards a 2002 TL-S?

Go for TL-S. You will be getting a 2002 model too! Besides, I like all the other stuff the 2002s have like fogs and memory seat etc.

Question

I don't understand why some people on this board would trade or sell a perfectly riding 1 or 2 year old car for the Type S. Is the fog lights, 6 disk deck, memory seats, and additional 30 hp worth it. Cause it just seems like you will lose a lot of money when you do that.

Hey Guys...Of course the mods would come later. Couldn't let Snook down right?

Ugen, I decided against the NAV system and the CD changer before and I regret it. That's the main reason for the change.

I had the same question. I decided to go with mods for my 2000.

Hey Adam, I'm doing all the comptech upgrades as soon as the weather warms up and the streets are finally clean.

Since you're in Stamford too, maybe we can meet up one day after they're done and you can check them out. (or you can do them first and I can check them out )

I'm modding my 00' as well, I love it! But hey if you have the money, why not? With 02' mods, nearly 300 horsepower in a luxury family sedan! Vaaarrrooommm! You can get those groceries alot quicker!

Just throw a Super Charger on a 2000.
The Grille on the TL-S is disgusting.

Since the Type S has a higher compression ratio, would that get less power from a supercharger or turbo?

None of you guys make any sense. If you want a totally fast 4door and have mega $$$ why are you driving a TL??? There are so many much faster 4 door cars out there right now. For someone who is not packing $$$$$ the TL is a good buy and offers alot of tunability.
If you spring for a TL-s and you already own a TL I think you will lose $$$ if you trade up for the TL-s with little gains in performance if you upgrade your TL.

Hey you Stamford guys, if you're doing mods and you're looking for a cool dealer to do the work, go to Greenwich Acura. Peter Studwell in Service is a great guy. He drives a CL-S and digs all the comptech mods.

I agree with ValueTL,
As much as I want a TL-S(which my car can beat anyway) I would lose to much money!!
If I were to buy a new 4-door car I would think of the GS430 but it's alittle out of my range right now. I would suggest for all those that have a 99-01 TL to keep it until your ready to get a new car in a few years. I don't think 35HP, fogs, etc.... is worth losing all that money!! IMO !! Just mod out your TL and make it faster than a TL-S, it's not that hard to do.....now if you looking to purchase a new car, then that's a different story, go for the TL-S!!

Danny:

You have the blue TL right? I was talking to Peter the other day and I mentioned you because I saw a post by you a little while back about Greenwich Acura. He said "That's my boy".

Are you the one that just did the sways and springs? Peter was talking about someone around there that just did it and he even called their house so they could tell me first hand how much better the handling was. Wasn't sure if that was you or not.

Oh yeah, I would never go anywhere else for anything on my Acura. Greenwich Acura is by far the best. If you see me driving around town, give me a beep or something.

Cool

Well, I probably would try to sell my TL before considering a Trade-In. I only have a 12k pay-off leaving me with around 13k for a down-payment plus an extra 2,000 saved up for mods. My payments would actually be cheaper than now. Just have to live with the fact that I'll have to wait longer to actually own a car. At this rate, I never will. You know what they say about people who choose red cars. Thanks for all the info.
