Post To modify or wait . .

After reading this article in C&D it makes you stop and think about adding CAI or headers.

According to the article the TL-S has been worked quite extensively by Honda Racing. And Honda Racing is one top notch out fit.

IMO - I would wait to do any engine mods until the tuners have had some time to play with the TL-S and post some proof of their performance claims. Based on years of drag racing (legal on the strip) I've watched guys actually hurt the performance of their cars with unproven products.

That said, I'm dying to find real gains on my quest to some day have 300HP. Without nitrous, turbos or superchargers. But based on what Honda Racing has already done, it may be a very difficult quest.

Let the performance wars begin! :-)

I would agree, but the Type S engine has been out since the debut of the CL-S in the spring of '99, and Comptech has delivered fine products that do, in fact, increase hp and put out documentable performance gains. Many many CL-S drivers have modded their autos and have dynoed their vehicles to certify their performance claims. Plus, they've systematically documently drag strip performance claims before and after each mod addition. If you're waiting for a supercharger, supposedly one is in the works at the ole' Comptech factory, but I doubt it'll be worth the money for what it'll add to your performance times --> the Type S engine is pretty much peaked in terms of output (after headers, exhaust, intake).

yeah, id think twice modding a tls. the cls has been dyno'd and shows gains all around with i/h/e. the tls uses the same engine, so you should be ok

dont trust accord or tlp dynos though

PeterUbers:

You wouldn't by chance know where to find the references to the CLS results?

I've seen the one from the Comptech site on headers, but that's all so far.

Thanks in Advance

Cool

Well, the CompTech headers alone add 30 wheel HP which is about 37 or so (assuming 25% drivetrain loss) at the flywheel. That would put you around 297hp. Add a CAI and you're over 300hp easy. If you're looking for dyno results, you should be able go to acura-cl.com and search using "dyno" as the key word... you should get some good results...

Comptech headers are way too expensive.
Is anyone else working on R&D for headers?

Thumbs up

FYI... here's one from today. He even got a modified catalytic convertor installed!! Keep in mind that these HP numbers are at the wheels, not the crank. Check it out...

Ruf,

As mentioned in the above posts, do look on the acura-cl.com and search/sift through the mounds of posts regarding modifications/performance results. They are actually quite extensive and very very informative. In fact, I'd even go so far to say that their descriptions of their results are often very objective as well. Search for "dyno," "drag," "intake/headers," and that sort of thing. In fact, I even think someone posted a dyno result for the Cl-S engine mod on the TL-S forum .. search through and I'm sure you'll find it. Lemme know if you end up getting the mods!

WarpSpeed has been working on headers for the Accord V6 (which should fit the 3.2). I spoke with them about a month and a half ago and they said they'd post pics of their prototype in "2-3 weeks". Nothing is up yet.
