mod effect
mod effect
I've been modding my tl without considering what effects they have on other systems on the car. I have intake and headers and they put some strain on the tranny. I was considering more engine mods like crank and vafc but since this issue has been brought up to my attention, I decided to hold off on anymore. I dunno what other components do these engine mods affect...
To be honest with you.. and I know this may seem far fetched... but our trannies are actually very strong. Yes, we all know there is a design flaw which is affecting about 4% of the TL's out there and causing them to fail, but all in all the trannies are rather strong.
For example... there are several guys on the CL board who are putting down over 330HP to the wheel on stock trannies and they're fine (one guy even built a custom turbo and was putting down higher then that). Comptech also tested its supercharger for almost one year on the auto and had no problems with it. It's kind of a crap shoot, but you have to figure that about 95% of the TL's are fine and will be able to handle more power, and the odds are, unless you have a lot of money, or are obsesed with HP, you won't be putting down over 330whp anytime soon.
BTW, don't bother with the VAFC unless you go the FI route. The amount of money and time you'll spend tuning it won't be worth the minimal gains unless you throw in a S/C or custom turbo. Using a VAFC with I/H/E/P won't get you much....
