I belieive that Acura recommends 5w-20. I dont use Mobil 1 but other people swear by it. I have had excellent luck with Castrol in my 15+ years with Honda engines.

I also use Castrol 5W20 (from Walmart, about 12 dollars for a 5 quart) and it has done a good job so far. Just make sure you pick up a good filter to go with (I use FRAM).

You are not following your own advice using a Fram.

I thought FRAM is good, apparently not. Anyone can kindly point out what would be considered to be a good filter. Any damages may happen when I used FRAM? Thanks

getting the oem filters from honda is nice, they are all the same size blue filters. either short fat or taller slimmer. except for i beilve honda truck/suv's and the little electric cars. plus you get the washer for your oil plug.

I absolutely love comments like that. You could run autozone special oil for that long and not see any problems. hell you could use it 100k and not see problems. When was the last time you saw motor problems from oil?

dont all oils and filters have to meet a certain industry standard? i know vette's and farrari's say mobile1 or castrol. and i'm sure synthetic is better that regular conventional oil. but these a luxury sedans. what ever happened to oil is oil?

For most people regular oil is more than just fine. Then there are those that get caught up in the mines better than yours or this one protects .00000000000001 micron better so i have to use it or my motor wont last people. Then there are the cars where the manufacturers have deigned the motors and want specific formulation/weight oils to ensure the highest possible protection under all conditions. Syn is superior to dino oil though and does offer higher protection and longer lasting.

LOL, yep. In fact I am sure Honda engine will work fine 200K miles with regular oil.

in this case I think your manual recommends 5w30. 5w20 is OK, should give you a bit better MPG, but I heard that 5w30 provides better protection.

I do too. Yea there are filters out there better but honestly do you think that if you use one your motor wont last Ive been using fram pretty much for 300k in the TL. (other than the deal i got on M1 filters years back where they were like 3$ each) Hummm My motor is just fine.

well, I think if you plan to push oil drain interval to 15K miles, its a good idea to use highest quality oil filter.

fram it is for me (tough gard) and I like the gripper too. Better than paying slews more for the K&N with the nut. The filter is not hard enough access to need a nut. Also, if the filters were that bad, fram would be out of business.
Although, I do like the synthetic . . . just me!

Like fstty, I used dino valvoline 1030 and fram in my old honda accord for 312k mi before I got rid of it. no engine problems other than the norm

alright, that lucas oil at the store is actually lucas oil, now the regular oil is watered down, i used to work at an auto store whit those displays, they add lucas oil on side and regular oil with a certain amount of water on the other side. bunch of bull.

5w20 is for gas mileage purposes only. The 01 CL-S (same exact motor as the 02-03 CL/TL-S calls for 5w30) The way I drive I like having the extra protection from the 30 weight.

I'm currently using Amsoil 0w30 and I'm getting excellent mileage. 27.5-31.5mpg.

I meant to say the 01 CL/CL-S calls for 5w30. The 02-03 calls for 5w30. Same engines.

99-01 TL 5w30. 02-03TL 5w20. Strictly for CAFE standards. Using either in any year wont harm any thing.

Why not? 1 min and your done (turn the wheel to the right and unscrew, fill new filter with oil and away you go). If your trying to minimize oil changes and keep it as long as possible changing the filter at 7500 isnt a bad idea.

watered down oil? wtf? i'll look closer next time. but if i came in the store and noone had messed with the display in a while, wouldnt i see the oil sitting ontop of the water? oil and water dont mix, or was that oil and vinegar... either way i think someone would notice.

when you only change the filter, you still need to drain the oil and then put it back. If I am going to do all that, I might as well put new oil and filter at the same time. I thought good oil filter such as M1, can last more than 7500 miles, perhaps to 10K ?

7500miles is the most that i would push on a m1 filter. i change my m1 filter between 3k-5k miles, bc of the way i drive and the conditions i drive in.

You DONT need to drain the oil to change the filter. You can unscrew the filter and the only oil that will come out is whats in the filter. Just like you can fill the oil without the filter on.
