Question Minimal Gains?

Hi all,
Im on a '99 TLp, and i wanted to upgrade my engine performance. would putting OBX/Stone headers, CAI and Pullies be worth my money?I've heard TLp upgrades give minimal increases in performance.
Would i get atleast 30/15 hp/torque?
Are there more effective performance upgrades? ($ per hp)

I dont know much about cars, you are always good help, thanks.

Intake/Headers/Catback exhaust w/a properly tuned V-AFC controller should give you good gains. If that isn't enough, get some UR pullies and some Denso Iridium spark plugs.

.. and if you're looking for more gains after that, get the Comptech blower.

Your not going to get much gains out of our car...especially a TLP. There isnt much aftermarket interest in our cars- too bad cause I think its a great engine. But what is out there is good, just dont expect a huge improvement. You might as well get a Type S, then you will already be 35 HP ahead of where you are now.

Yup, what ill*tl said. However the Comptech blower is only available for the TL-S (unless ill*tl is referring to the AV6 Comptech blower), and it will soon be discontinued soon due to lack of sales and public interest (that's what I heard, don't know if it's true).

and then u caculate price per hp, its pretty good, and then u can still add on stuff. i have a 99TLP with filter, i like it, enough power for the roads. adn i can still beat most cars if i need 2 race.

you should see good gains with those mods. The pulleys will give you the same gains whether its on a TL-P or TL-S. As far as the CAI and headers are concerned, you'll see gains, but mostly in V-TEC range. The headers will give you some mid range power as well. If you really want to see optimal gains, you should really install a cat-back exhaust right away to get the true potential out of the CAI/Headers. I've heard some members say they have installation problems with the Stone Headers, so you may want to check into some Comptech headers. Also, as far as plugs go, you won't really notice anything with Denso Irridiums. They don't really have any better conductivity than platinum, and they definetly aren't worth $13 per plug. Your best bet performance wise is to go with basic NGK copper plugs. They have much better conductivity than platinum or irridium, plus they only cost about $2 each. The only downside is that they have to be replaced every 30K rather than 60K for platinum/irridiums.

Yeah, I heard that too. But I don't know anyone with a TL-P that got one installed. It seems only the Type S guys have the blowers so far.

With any mod except the supercharger i personaly think the gains in high range and highway is noticable but I don't feel much difference on the local streets.

If you are getting pulley, the most important pulley to get would be the crank pulley.

See this thread for UR part number and other information about the pulleys:

http://www.acura-tl.com/forums/showt...5&pagenumber=1

No, TL-P engine will not get as much HP/TQ as the TL-S, regardless of which mods you do. That's because the TL-S is setup to have better gains from mods than the regular TL-P. But having said that, TL-P modded will perform decently when compared to stock TL-P.

If you want your TL-P to have TL-S performance, getting I/H/E and pulleys will bring you at par (or almost at par) with the stock TL-S. That kind of performance gain should not be dismissed, it's really good.

What I was trying to point out, if you put the same kind of mods on a TL-P and TL-S (side by side comparison), the TL-S will provide more gains in HP/torque. That's because the TL-S has a higher compression, better throttlebody, etc, etc. The TL-S just has more room to work with when it comes to performance enhancements. You can't compare a TL to a TL-S performance wise, because the setup is completely different (that's like comparing apples to oranges). But if you compare a modded TL-P to a stock TL-P, then the gains are quite good and respectable, IMHO.

Question What is the 1/4 mile time for TL (not type s)

anyone? for both stock and I/H/E mods?

By the way, what is the diff btwn TL & TL-P. I don't think there is any diff...

Please advise... :banghead:

I believe a TL-P with those mods will be about 15 seconds even in the 1/4 mile.

You should do a search for differences. There are many threads that cover this in detail.

-edit-

Sorry - thought you meant TL-P / TL-S differences...

I read somewhere that the quarter mile for the TL-P is somewhere in the mid to high 15s. Modded with I/H/E, the TL-P should run low 15s or high 14s (not 100% sure tho).

There is no difference between TL & TL-P. We call the TL a TL-P because the 'P' stands for Premium.

The TL is heavy as hell vs the SI. The HP to weight ratio sucks in our cars. We need a V8
