Michelin Pilot XGTZ4 ?

Post Michelin Pilot XGTZ4 ?

The Pilot XGT Z4 is available in 225/50 17" an almost perfect fit for the OEM wheels on the TLS. Anyone out there have have them? How do they perform in Dry, wet and SNOW?

I think 225 width is a little too wide for the TL-S's 6.5" rims. The CL-S's 7" rims might fit better.

I have Pilot XGT Z4s in 225/55/16 on my stock TL wheels and I like them. I can't tell you how they do in the snow because I have snow tires on during the winter, but they are good the rest of the time.

I just spoke to Acura on their toll free line and they verified that the wheels on the new TL-S are in fact 6.5". He claimed they could not use 7.0" because it would "interfere with the rear fender flare"
I looked at a new TL-S this afternoon and there seems to be plenty of clearance. Michelin recommends 7" rims for MXMs in a 215 but they also recommend 7" for the 225.
The 225/50s are only .39 inches wider than a 215/50 so it shouldn't be a problem.

Any thoughts out there?

i don't think a 7" rim would interfere at all with the fender flare. seems to me there's plenty of room there. i think 225's on 7" rims would be just right.

dude i have an aftermarket rim that has a higher lower offset at 50(meaning sticks out more than the 55 offset the OEM rims have), with a 17x7.5 rim, and I have heard that a 225/45/17 tire will not interfere with the fender flares, so why would the TL-S rims interfere?!?!?! Don't worry guys 225/50/17 should be JUST fine with the 17x6.5 rims in the back!!!

I'm not sure it is relevant but I have Blizzak snows 225x55/16 on steel rims on my '99 TL. The inside edge scrubs the rear spring if I hit a big dip in the road. With three occupants I have to be quite careful to not scrub the tires. Even though these tires are 225, they look wider because of the large cleats in them and they are less rounded on the edges. Anyone else have that problem with 225x55/16 tires. It could also be the rim width. I am not sure what mine are. They are standard aftermarket wheels for the TL.

Wouldn't rims with higher offset solve this problem because the rims will be mounted further out and away from the springs ?

Sorry I mean higher negative offset or lower positive offset.

I think so. I just wish I had been able to notice it before buying them. I took all kinds of time checking the clearance with the fender but didn't think of the rear spring.
