Merging the 2 TL Forums
Merging the 2 TL Forums
It was posted a week ago that we should merge the 2 TL forums. General Discussion and Type S
I want to take a finally vote on that to make sure it is ok by you, that we do this.
Please vote, and I will make it so

I agree with you on this, I don't think it's necessary to have two TL forums. Especially when people who own the regular 2002 TL would probably not even go into the TL-S forum. I think they should be merged into one where we can exchange ideas among all TL owners......

TL, TL-S, CL - it's all in the same family. I think most things of interest to any one of us would be of equal interest to most all of us. I always read all the forums anyway, so why not put them together in one place.
Does this mean Im out of a job?????
For some stuff and some questions I post in the other forum as well as here, but for others I just remain here. Overall however, I like having the seperate Type-S forum.

Would there be a fixed ratio on the votes? or will it be decided regardless the % difference.....like if it was 49% to 51%. Personally, I dont think things should change (in democracy in general, or like with my company policy) unless it has a minimum of 60-65% of total votes favoring the change. Total votes should be at least uh.....i dunno 30% of the total registered/active population? hmm......come to think of it, whats the percentage of people in the united states accually vote? more than 30%?
I tend to agree with edgalong.
I voted for the merger but since some members are not on that often I suggest we should probably make the change (or not) based on at least a 2/3 majority.
I also feel we should either wait until we at least reach a minimum number of votes or an appropriate time period has expired.
Last time someone counted we had well over 100 "S" owners registered. Where is everyone?
Just my $.02.

I don't think they should be merged. The TLS forum is very successful. This forum is the second most popular forum here. It is more popular than off-topic, and is second to only the TL forum. It gets plenty of daily posts and replies, and we have our regular posters, people that I notice don't post in the TL forum always.
I think that things should stay the way they are. It is not just because I mod this forum, but I truly think that the TLS forum is a great forum and should remain independent. However, I too do not want to be out of a job.
I have off-topic, but it is nice to mod a pure car forum.
Thats my word.
Peace.
Justin.

We got 29 people who vote they should stay together. Were are you guys? Post you're support for keeping the boards together.
I also think that there needs to be 3/4s of the vote in one direction for it to count, otherwise things stay the way they are. If 75% of voters agree one way, then I guess it should be that way, anything less and nothing changes.

The only reason I say to leave it be is because of what I saw on Honda-Acura.net. Members there with 6th gen V6's wanted their own forum which we never did. I initially voted as did many to leave the V6 and I-4 owners in one Accord forum. After a while I noticed that we lost alot of our V6 members to other sites that had seperate V6 forums.
I came to realize that many members liked the fact that their cars were different and they enjoyed that differentiation. So I have since changed my tune and think that having seperate forums for major variations on a car is a good idea. Like the Civic Si seperate from other Civics, Teg Type R seperate from Teg, and TL-S seperate from TL. This is just another reason that I like the format over here so much more than on CL.com.
This is all just my 2 cents.

If this forum were dead I could understand merging the two forums, but it is a very active and popular forum. There is no reason to merge the two. Business is good here.
I say merge as I voted when it was first posted.
I have a couple of reason I said to do it the first is because you have to switch back & forth to read each forum. Another reason some same topics are posted on each forum. Iam not slighting the Type-S owners but some of us here that have been here for along time were talking Type-S way back when. This was even just after I purchased my 2000TL on another old forum. The Type-S is just a variant of the regular TL.

I vote to keep them seperate.
There is a First Gen forum and a TL Discussion. Because there were so many changes made between the 99-01 TL's and the 2002 TL and Type-S its almost like the Type-S forum is Third Gen forum (even though the 02 year isn't a new generation). To differentiate even further there are some big differences between the Type-S and the TL-P.
Acura-TL is growing so fast right now (I see multiple new members daily) that the post counts are increasing exponentially (well at least it seems that way
), I feel that by combining the TL Discussion and Type-S forums, the new forum would simply be too big with too many threads. It'd kinda be like the CL forum where its hard to keep up with the sheer number of posts.
Whatever you do we're stuck with it though...damn Dictator Snook

Instead of trying to merge the forums, how about restructuring the forums instead? Have a General forum for TL *and* TL-S since most people do read both forums and most topics in both can apply to either model. Then have a Q&A forum for problems/repairs or other questions about the car. Have another forum for people to talk about who got smoked by this car or who smoked that car, since some of us could give a damn about this type of post while others love to read those stories.
Just some suggestions, but I would bet that it would be a lot easier to browse the forums if there was some organization here.

MERGE EM, and here's why..
I have a TL non type S, and most people tend to post things that relate to both models, TYPE S and NOT TYPE S in the TYPE S forum, so I have to go there to read about it..
For instance, NAV system DVD Coverage area spent a lot of time in the TYPE S forum, but it really could go in the General Discussion..
Just my .02..

I'd say merge but to throw a wrinke in to the poll...
what happens when the third generation TL comes out? Another 2 boards for each third generation (Type S and Non-Type S)?
Bring it to 5 different boards for Car discussion? Thats a lot of work to just view all of the messages.
just my .02

Keep them seperated. I think most people read both forums anyway, at least I do. The TL-S forum is very successful and it gives us a chance to talk about our cars specifically. I say if it aint broken, don't fix it.
