Mechanical car wash?

Mechanical car wash?
Ok, it's like ****ing freezing here for the past month or so. You guys say that I should wash my car. From your replayes to my previous post you say that you do not use mechanical car wash, how come? I'm not even going to think about washing my car by hand in 18 to 22 deg weather that we have here in Philly.

This is what I recommend.
1)I would wash my car by hand if possible.
2)If the weather is not suitable for washing your car the next best thing would be to go to a "do it yourself" place that uses high pressure spray. This would allow you to blast off the salt and grime from your car without hardly touching water.
3)The last resort would be to go to a automatic car wash that is "brushless." That meas there are no cloth or brushes that rubs againts your car, therefore little possible damage your car can be done.
But there are always chances that the automatic carwash may damage your car if you are not situated in the right spot and the arms may hit the body of your car. As with everything there are always a slim chance something wrong can happen.
But by all means get that salt off of your car!

Damn I just spent like 2 hours washing my car. It's 32 deg. outside. and who know how cold it is with wind chill factor. Everything was going fine until I had to dry off the car. Then the freakin water froze on the car. Man don't be cheap just go to the car wash. This is the last time I'm washing my car in the freezing cold and can't even dry it off. Now I got drops of frozen water on my car and it's all spotted up.

I take mine to a place called Bubbles. They do everything by hand. I'd do it myself, but then the laziness kicks in. Don't you guys have hand washes where you're at?

If I were you I would just wait a few weeks to wash it.We are going to get some snow ice or rain this weekend here east.I now how you feel now I like a clean car but this cold weather has not let me wash it.I have not washed my car since Nov 30, & its Black.
I do use stuff like Quick Detailer sprays but the weather has been to cold for that also. I just try to get the bird crap off. This car will never see the inside of an auto car wash as long as I own it. I will probaly go to a do it yourself wash & get some of this stuff off the car.

Avoid the mechanical car washes if you can. Rocks & sands tends to bind into the brushes and end up harming the finish on your car. If you can't wash it yourself take it to a car wash where the attendants wash your car by hand. I guess I consider myself lucky because I live sunny southern California, and I enjoy washing my car. I don't trust anyone with my baby . . . also this way I get a chance to inspect the car thoroughly for any chips or dents.

Waz up bdimc2001. My wife and I washed my car like a week ago. It was freaking cold as hell outside. Like bdimc2001 said, the water on my car just turned to ice right in front of my eyes. We had to dry it off ASAP or else streaks will appear. I had a bad experience with brushless car wash. After I got home I checked and there was a scratch on my trunk. Either the guy had a dirty towel or was just jealous about my car that he scratched it on purpose. Since then and my new rims, I have been washing it by hand. But it is getting too damn cold so I might go to the do-it-yourself wash (hopefully indoors). But I really recommend that you wash it often in the winter because of all the salt/rocks/dirt that collects on the car. It will mess up the paint in the long run. Don't your baby deserve better. Mine definitely does.

Maybe I should clarify what I mean by "brushless." I mean the ones that do not use brushes, they actually use jets of water and stuff.
I just wanted to clarify, and to reiterate what others have said and not use the mechanical ones that uses brushes and cloths.

Careful on the 'touchless' ones... dont let them dry your car with towels caus the car is not totally clean.. you will end up getting more swirls than you bargained for!
