major issue: car accelerating

Srry it'll be brief as its an emergency and I'm on my phone.

- started today
- car acelerates by itself to and stays around 20-30, it was at 60 before
- accelerates in all gears, park/reverse/neutral/ drive

start simple:
throttle cable or cruise control cable broken or jamming at connection to TB- return spring area at TB---someone had that recently- broken edge where cable fits in

next- electronics= TPS failing

can you get to a parts store?

probably just a sticky throttle cable or something (or a lost return spring on the pedal maybe, the springs on the tb, are nowhere close to being strong enough for pulling the pedal back up) or see below \/

but anyways what does the engine rev at, in park or neutral, maybe stuck on cold idle or something, or maybe a bad IACV, with being stuck open

You mean it idle high in all gears ? Or it actually moves in Park and Neutral ? Check the throttle cable like the guys said, make sure that your floor mat isn't tuck under neath so that the gas pedal got jammed up and not fully return.

mark set nut and lock nut positons- loosen them and pull back to
remove cable from mount at TB-
hold up end and spray wd or deep creep or silicone lube thru the end into the cable, move cable back and forth, continue until fluid comes out other end--
put a catch rag at gas pedal to keep wd off the carpet!
Do same for cruise control cable and lube the throttle spring assembly

cable tension needs a little slack, about 1/2 inch depress with thumb before it moves the throttle- too tight and it wont idle

for easy way- go to harbor freight tools- cable lube tool- 5$ or less
clamps onto cable housing and has a hole you put straw of spray can in- let it fill and flow right thru in seconds...much easier and cleaner method
can use the same tool on lawn mower throttle and safety stop cables or bike brake cables, motorcycle throttle and choke etc
handy tool to have around

or if absolutely worried about it, go buy a new one, so no possibility of corrosion and such of being inside the cable, and anyways not that hard to replace if necessary

most cables should be ok if you just lube them as directed in the owner book-
nother thing people just dont know about- like sunroof tracks and door hinges need lubrication too!

If your engine looks like a bed of salt- thats different~ might need cable if corroded
