Major Disappointment

Well the 99 TL I currently own has been a major let down.

At 95, 000 KMS this thing resembles a GM product more than it does a Honda!

The AC has failed, Seat heaters have failed, Window Sash is peeling, the leather (what little of it there really is) on the driver seat has started to crack, driver side mirror is shaky, some of the interior trim has started to come loose , oh and the Tranny. I'm sure I missed a few thing but I'm sure you get the idea.

My last Honda (92 PreludeSR) was in better shape after
360, 000KMS.

Given the amount and seriousness of the problems I'v seen posted on this excellent web site and the other owners I've talked to, Honda should be ashamed.

More on my dealings with the dealer (Strerne Acura in North Toronto) and Honda Canada.. What a joke..

Toyota/Lexus here I come!

Conversion is:

96,000 KMS = 60,000 Miles

360,000 KMS = 225,000 Miles

60,000 miles or so, seems like a lot of problems.

I don't worry about the tranny because it is warrantied.

I will worry about it around 100k.

Browse any forum on the net and you won't find any where problems don't exist. Given that you seem to have the worst of luck with your Honda / Acura product, you should still keep this in mind. My 2002 TLS has been trouble free after 30,000 mi of performance style driving each and every day of the year.

Sorry that your experience with Honda isn't as good as mine. I have the same milage. Only major problem on my 99 TL is the HU not playing CDR and I had that fix underwarranty.

Its not that my overall experience with Honda has been poor its STRICKLY with this TL. Based on a number of factors I think Acura's overall quality is dropping and I hope the Honda products are not following along.
My Prelude was a solid Car, I drove it hard all the time and it never produced any serious problems. I dont think thats possible with this TL.
The Prelude was built in Japan! the TL is built here in N America. Could be a factor?
One thing is a given, if I ever do purchase another Honda product it won't be an Automatic! Honda has always had a solid Manual Gear box and sub-par Automatic dating as far back as the Legend.

In general, auto trannys are far more complicated than manual trannys. Buddy of mine knew a guy who rebuilt them and watched him. Manual tranny is nothing compared to auto. Autos have a lot of clutches, etc. within them whereas manual is just gears and maybe some more stuff... Someone please correct me if I'm wrong

Just because lexus/toyota has a bigger name doesn't mean they don't have their share of problems. The lexus had a recall on their tranny as well! I just think Honda/Acura is more on performance where lexus/toyota is more on luxury and comfort. I'll wait till I'm old and I don't want to feel the road anymore before I get a lexus. But till then, I'm sticking with Honda/Acura.

dude... ever since i hit 100k, i've had problem after problem after problem...

1. tranny dying... so they are replacing it for a small fee [i'm cool with that since i'm outta warranty - granted i paid extra for a 100k bumper to bumper warranty] THUMPY, they have had a recall... or a silent one... a bunch of owners got a letter stating that their tranny coverage was extended to 100k

2. power steering pump just died

3. rotors are continually getting warped ... [ i know it's not how i'm driving if i have to replace them this much ]

4. ac is starting to make funky noises...dealer tells me i need to replace some parts or something

5. gas tank release valve or something stopped working

etc etc etc... can't think of everything else off the top of my head...
