Maintenance Req'd Light - Won't Clear!

We just bought a 2000 TL. Nice car, runs fine but the Maintenance Req'd light won't clear. I tried the procedure in the manual but no luck. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

I see this time to time on the 98-02 accords, and the culprit is the cluster itself. The TL has the same guts as the accord cluster for the most part. most live with it due to the price of the cluster.

Thanks. That might be what we have to do. I was hoping there would be some way to clear it .... other than by the method in the manual.

just to verify method
place key in ignition
put left hand THRU top of steering wheel
with right hand turn key to ON, not start, just ON
press and hold in BOTH trip/reset buttons with LEFT hand
mait light will flash 10 times and go out
release buttons
turn key off
done!
give that a shot

its job is to count 6500-7500 miles since last reset- then starts blinking to remind you of oil change due
measures nothing but miles since reset

^^One small correction; turn the key off, then push and hold the buttons, then turn the key on. I've never counted the flashes, but it seems more like 13 seconds than the 10 seconds honda claims.

just to be certain it is the maintenance required light and not the check engine light?

Is that correct? Since it is a new car to you thought it would be worth asking so we can help troubleshoot.

doH! got my methods backwards
if you follow my above stated way= it gets into outside temp reading adjustment mode
goes up or down 5 degrees

should take about 10 sec for mait light to finish flashing and go off
once its off you are done
