Maint Req'd Light and Cell phone radio interference.

I noticed I have a Maint Req'd light come on when I first start the car but it goes away when I put it in gear.

Should I take it to the dealer or did he just forget to reset something when I had my scheduled oil change?

Also, anyone else plug in a cell phone into the cigarette lighter and notice a funny sound in the stereo when your phone rings?

Could these be related?

How many miles do you currently have on your car?

I think about 9,000km's.

ie. I've been through one scheduled oil change but not there for the second.

what is 9000KM in miles? If you are approaching your second maintenance then the light will blink, not a steady light.

9000km~5595miles. You are getting close to your 7,500miles maintenance. It will start blinking when you start your car as it gets closer to 7,500miles. When you hit 7,500miles, it will stay on until the dealer resets it for you. You don't HAVE to have a schedule maintenance if you don't want. Just tell them to turn it off for you next time you bring it in for an oil change.

That "funny sound" is due to your cellphone transmitting signal to the nearest cell tower. Try plugging it into the outlet in your armrest next time. The sound should go away. If it doesn't, get a new cellphone. It might be frying your brain everytime you use it.

You can turn the light OFF yourself its in the owners manual no need to get the dealer to do it for you.

It is in the armrest :wow:

It's a Nokia 6160.

So it's basically air wave interference? Or does it have something to do with the electrical system of the car?

Electrical noise...

I suppose it could be some RF from your cell phone getting into the radio... Does it do it when you are playing CDs as well? If it still does it then, it is more likely the fact that the BOSE audio system sucks and is not sufficiently decoupled from the 12V power supply. Your Cell phone is putting digital hash or a ringing pulse onto the power rail, and the stereo is picking it up off of the same common power supply. It's like when you hear the alternator whine in your stereo system. I haven't messed with the stereo yet, but that would be my first guess as to what is happening. I'm sure some stereo buffs here could dial you into a heavy isolation choke and decoupling cap setup to help isolate the power supply rails between the stereo and the utility power outlets if this really bothers you...
