Magnaflows with no Resonators?

I have no resonators on my car and about to purchase the axel back exhausts on my car. is this a good idea? how will it sound? im just hoping its not TOO loud (ex. civic, eclipse, neon fart can loud). i dont really want it to set off alarms when im driving through parking lots or even so noticeable that people think its another civic passing by.. i dont mind being loud as like.. the Nissan Z and other VQ nissan cars..

gahh.. i really dont want to spend money on putting back the resonators.. damn.

I think without resonators ur car will be VERY LOUD. Here's bigman's setup. It's very m3/m5 loud with resonators already and I likey very much . With resonator + mufflers + custom mandrel bent piping + install it comes around $400. It may be loud but at least it's deep and gruff like a powerful car should be.

it will be way too loud i have the magnaflows on my car with a 22" resonator and it still puts out a nice noise, personally i would go with a 14-18"

came out to about 460ish for me because they had to make all new piping and he had headers and intake it hink because mine isnt as deep it also cuts out at high rpm's i was sad when i put it on and it didnt sound the same haha

the link isnt working.. but yeah, thanks for the response. im feeling alittle scared to get this done right now. but hopefully i can get a resonator put on so i wont have to worry too much about it drilling my ears every time i drive my car.

i also have intake and headers so i guess for me it'll be pretty deep right?

Why do you prefer 14-18? And also does your exhaust drone while you cruise on freeway? I wanted the magnaflow but didn't do it because of this uncertainty. After all I gotta keep the luxury part of my car around unless I really open the throttle .

Are you going to buy headers? I wanted headers so bad too, but comptech too expensive, now that Megan's has fixed it's problems, I bought mine for $200 shipped and am very happy with them. I'm planning to buy that setup that bigman has, but I wish the tips were not 4" . Do you know if that same muffler is sold in the mufflers w/o tips section? And which one it is? I prefer comptech sized muffler tips which are 3.5". Also, do you have the part numbers for the Y-pipe and resonator? thanks.

i will get you the part numbers later tonite but it does drone out after about 4k rpms thats why i was so dissapointed. the 22" resonator makes it really quiet so i would like to go for 14-18" intake will fix that though and yes im going to buy headers too

The whole setup cost me 290 dollars for the tips resonator and Y pipe Tips were like 100 each resonator was 53 and Y pipe only 25 dollars

sounds alittle crazy just for a nice set of exhausts. i wasnt expecting so much work for putting on a pair of axle backs. hmm, cant i just go to a muffler shop (where i got my resonators removed) and just ask if they can put any small resonator on there? wouldnt it help enough?

get real small resonators...dynomax makes a good set that ive put on a lot of cars. you can also get some "silver bullets" or pay the extra money (about 55 bucks) for some 14" magnaflow resonators. they will probably give you the best sound.

yeah i was doing alittle researching on the forums and came up on your thread. i dloaded your videos back then i found them on my computer. its not loud enough to set off alarms, or else all those cars in your videos would be going buckwild.

does headers effect it that much?? i have headers in right now.. i have headers. well how's your idle and low rpms? i dont really want it THAT loud when just cruising, i dont mind it being super loud up at vtec though.

thanks for your input, i was about to PM you about your setup too, but seems like you already put in your 2cents

So anyone with video of exhaust with headers? I'm about to order but holding back because of wanting to hear it. The best video information I could recieve is if you could leave camera right behind the exhaust (outside) driving off normally with a little start(25%-40%) so I can hear the exhaust and not mistaken it for the intake like in previous videos. If anyone can do that, it would be great for all of us to hear the voice of this system without mixing it with something else.

Other than that, I'm debating whether to put in Magnaflow Resonator or Dynomax. The silver bullet, is it good and does it also keep cabin as quiet as say... a 14"-18"? Thanks

just do it. if its to loud for you you can always add a resonator to help with your issue. (the tl even no mufflers or resonators doesnt sound like a fart can civic (i run mine complete straight pipe every now and then, the only thing is the resonance on the hwy with straight pipe)

I don't mind droning... but the damn resonance LOL while cruising on freeway. BTW in loud do you mean like "beefy v8" loud or just haha i can't describe v6 loud... never done it.. Only heard i4 fart can. Telling me it ain't i4 sounding is promising though. I'm going for beefy v8 as I heard in bigman's video.

that would be the droan we talk about, and like i said, just do the custom work you want now, and if its to loud after the header just simply have an exhaust shop try different size resonators till you find the sound you like

exactly.

and the resonance is only around 2.2k to about 2.7k..
go and see what speed that rpm is.
it is like 55 mph..how often do you drive at 55?.

maybe 40..45...then like 60..65..

so, IMO it is not that bad...for the brief time it revving thru those rpms.

Haha I like drone while accelerating. Anyway I think I'm gonna experiment with 18" Dynomax resonator. If it's not enough, I'll put in a 12" and that should definitely be overkill haha. I was gonna go silver bullet but damn, it don't silence squat at all. THanks guys.

I had my axleback Magnaflows installed awhile back, and it's noisy! No Magnaflow resonator, only the OEM ones. You do get used to it - when cruising on the highway, I try not to step on the gas (less gas, means less drone). As a result I get better mileage.

But I will definitely be looking at getting the 24" Magnaflows put in later this summer, I want my quiet ride back!

im getting my magnaflow axlebacks tomorrow! once i install i'll post up videos of just cruising and right outside of the car. normal driving and none of that accelerating as fast as i can deal.

remember i have headers and no exhaust resonators at ALL. straight pipe all the way to the mufflers. this is gonna be loud, i cant wait! HAHA

Wow... summitracing.com is the fastest shipper I know. I ordered yesterday around 1:00pm... and it's here today at 11:00am. Here are some picks of the 18" resonator by Dynomax.

u may want to install 2 resonators.

1 under the forward cabin and 1 under rear cabin.
2 14's....

if i had to do it again id install 1 in 1 out 2 (probably borla) muffler around where the large resonator is, then id run the 2 2 1/2 pipes out the rear (the muffler acts as the Y) one on each side. to 2 nice resonated tips and if need be 1 resonator in front of the muffler

Someone please invent VERT. Variable Exhaust Resonance Timing. Reads the output from the ECU and will shift resonators based on speed and RPM. Loud as hell in the VTEC range, normal resonance in the shifting range, quiet for sustained speed/low RPM.

I'd do it if I were into Analog Design... but i'm an EE into Semiconductors . That would be sweet to make though, but question is how many would buy?

Ahh good. We should discuss some of my other ideas then (unrelated to the TL). Requires knowledge of circuits and circuit design, but I'm circuitly-challenged

Alright, I got them installed today at Modern Mufflers (a.k.a. Michael's Mufflers). Really nice people. GATDAMN it's loud when you roll around 2300-28700 RPM. Unfortunate for people like me who everyday drive. But the sound is clean, deep, and throaty. The guy there told me that 2.5 was useless since my Megans were 2.25 so we went 2.25 all the way back.... I like it alot and am very satisfied. However I do wanna keep my sanity so I will add one more 18" Dynomax Race Bullet to even out the sound internally. Outside it is perfect though. No fart can here. I'll post pics later tonight.

it is loud.
i have to add another res...
right in that 2.3 3.0k rpm range....mucho resonance..
what is that anyway?.

it's like a sweet spot for the gearing on the car...
acura did a nice job of quieting the car down.

Roger that... my resonator comes tomorrow.. that'll make it 2 18" racing mufflers. LOL we'll see what happens. Damn these things sound like HKS Super Dragers.
