Unhappy Lowering Springs Confusion!?!?!

Hello all,

I'm having trouble understanding springs. All shops that I have been to tell me theres only one drop size for my 2000 TL with Comptech, Eibach, and H&R.

All shops tell me Comptech only sell 1.25/1" drop, Eibach only sell 2.1/1.6" drop, and H&R sport spring only sell 1.75/1.5"drop for my TL.

When I look for help on this forum, I'm getting more confused because everyone who has comptech have a 1.75/1.25 drop and different drop sizes with Eibach and H&R.

Can someone please clarify to me If there is a difference between the Comptech 1.25/1" and 1.75/1.25 drop?

How did everyone with springs get different drop sizes when Comptech, Eibach, and H&R have only one drop size for TL's?

Also, does anyone know a good shop in the Los Angeles area?

Thank you for all your help

If you do a search you'll be able to confirm this, but I was one of those with the 1.75/1.5 drop with Comptechs on my 2002 TL. This is because the springs are the same as for the 2002- Accord, and the TL is heavier. I agree with the above post, just get the Comptechs and don't look back. They don't require a camber kit. Some people have an issue with the raked look offered by the springs, but I loved it.

Comptech - designed for the tl, will probably give you 2/1.6 give or take

H&Rm Eibach - designed for the accord but will give slightly different results on cl and tl (different weight distribution)

New H&R - designed for the tl, will give you the specified drop (check the website)

short answer - if you have accord or cl, get whatever you want, if you have tl, get the comptech or the new H&R sports

for the long answer you will have to search!

I had Comptech springs part number 110-135 installed on my 2003-TL-S. On the box the springs came in, it states clearly, 99-01 TL, 01 CL, and 98-01 Accord V6. I have OEM tires, shocks, and wheels. After the install, the actual drop came out to be around 1.75 front and 1.5 rear compared to the Comptech advertised 1.25 front and 1.0 rear. The reason being that these springs were made for the 99-01 TL and NOT for the 2002-2003 TL and TLS. However Comptech is advertising these springs for all 99-03 TL and TL-S. The TL-S is heavier than the TL, therefore the actual drop is a little more for the front and the rear. There is a very slight "rake" look but it's very subtle. The drop is a "lowered" look but not a "slammed" look. Some people prefer the lowered look over the slammed look and vice versa. I can't speak for others but one thing for sure is that I don't scrape over parking blocks, speed bumps, or driveways with the Comptechs even with four people in the car. I can just about clear anything just like when I had stock springs. The ride quality is slightly firm but definitely better than stock springs and no harshness. I am thinking, that for your 2000 TL, the drop will be like what Comptech advertised. Everyone has different wheel size, tire size and shocks so that may be why your getting different drop reports from other forum members. This topic has been discussed many times and there are volumes of information posted from experiences of other members to help you out, just like it helped me. Just conduct a search in the knowledge base and it will help. Good luck.

Fyi: The Comptech's are even designed with the driver in mind. The driver side front spring is just slightly taller than the passenger so that when you are in the car it is close to being level on both sides-good engineering. The springs are 10% stiffer than the the stocks but not harsh on the ride. My car actually looks pretty level, no noticeable rake and the drop is perfect.

Anyone here seen/heard of anyone with the TEIN SS coilovers?
I haven't seen a single post about them and was wondering if they were all hype or what... pretty damn good deal on some coilovers if you ask me!

I have the Tein SS Coilovers but I haven't installed them yet. I figured I'd wait until the spring. I'll keep everyone posted on the outcome! Someone on this forum has the Tein BASIC. Pretty much the same thing except without the dampening adjustments.

Comptech springs are manufactured by Betts Spring company in San Leandro, California. They are an ISO Certified company.

Shiffy,

For a conservative drop go with Comptech Springs. Your other option would be H&R springs part # 50103. Conduct a search in the knowledge base and you will find a lot of information to assist you in your decision.

Hey vaioman,

We're setting up a So Cal meet for Jan. 17th. There should be several TLs with different drops for you to look at in person.

Go to www. A C U R A W O R L D .com and check out the Meets Forum. (Obviously, remove the spaces in the web-address).
