Lowering in Canada

Hey guys, I am thinking of lowering my car. The problem is that I live in Edmonton, Alberta Canada and we get huge amounts of snow in the winter. Is lowering the car a bad idea? I just want to get rid of the raised look a little. I was thinking of getting the H&R OE springs. Do you think I will have any problems with all that snow?? Thanks

Bryan

Actually, now that I think about it, coilovers may be a better way to go for me. The only thing is I have read a few posts that people were having noise problems with their coilovers. Which are the best coilovers in terms of maintaining the stock ride quality and do not "squeek"?

Thanks again!

coil overs are the worst choice for a Canadian Winter...unless you're willing to get under your car and coat them with Silicon grease or vaseline so they don't corrode over the winter and come spring you won't be able to turn them anymore...
comptechs or H&Rs are fine in the winter...I had them on my CL-S and I drove it thru 2 winters, that were far more wintery than the past one!

Thanks for the advice! So even with the amount that the Comptechs lower they should be ok in terms of scraping and keeping the mud guards intact for an Alberta winter?

are you sure you wanna drop it?

autophile1,

Although I live in mild southwestern Ontario, I am kinda leaning towards the conservative side and may not drop my car. (I'll wait until my warranty runs up if I do.) Alberta winters are legendary -- all you need is a really bad snowstorm and you'll be stuck. Comptechs drop in the 1"-1.5" range (if I remember correctly) and have a raked look. Your mud flaps (which are DEADLY on the paint -- read a thread about it in the Acura-TL site somewhere) may be really close to the ground after the drop... so to avoid that problem, you may want to remove the mud guards if you don't drive on gravel roads too often.

Just my $0.02.

audiophile, i live in calgary and will be lowering my ride in the spring with h and rs... there are hell lotta civisc lowered in this city and they seem to be fine in the winter... as long as it isnt slammed im prettys ure we'll be ok with 2 - 3 inch drops, only thing we'll get are those dirty mud/snow/sluch right on our mudguards...

i saw a 1 tl, and 2 cls lowered... i think the tl was on comptechs and the cls were both on h and r or maybe the eibachs, but it looked sweet...and the cl i saw yesterday was driving in snow so i guess its fine...no worries...just dont take ur car out in the middle of a snow storm...

we should have an Alberta meet sometime haha!:p

IMO clearance requirements are over rated.

I've been through really deep stuff in many cars through the years without difficulty.

The most important thing is to get dedicated snow/cold weather tires.

an Alberta meet huh? It will just be me and you sitting around looking at each other's cars I was just down in Calgary last month (I am actually moving there in October), do you guys not plow your streets? Good thing I rented a Jeep Liberty to drive down even downtown was not plowed. Crazy stuff!

Anyway, which H&R's are you thinking of using? I am starting to think that the OE drop is the lowest I am willing to go...

no, we're going sports for sure... OE isnt too much difference and i see friends with 3 inch drops on civics riding in winter...and they dont seem to have problems

only thing im worried about is my drive way... if it will scratch, im gonna go get some cemet and re do or fix the drive way...

calgary? main roads are not bad, but ur house streets are pretty snowy...but i dont think snow plays a big factor...it only creates those dirty pile of snow behind ur wheels...

movin to calgary ? great!

tl meet?! hmm... it would have to be tl/cl meet since ive seen few cls modded...

I hate the sand/gravel/salt on the roads! I have to drive faster just so people don't pass me and kick up gravel on my TL! Otherwise Calgary isn't so bad in the winter. There's actually quite a few TL's in Calgary....but mostly older people driving them =)

Cool! I never knew Calgary had honda forum sites. I guess it's a big city after all (kinda). I don't post much on this site..but there's some really good information on our TL's. Nice to see Albertan's too! There's gotta be more TL drivers than 2! TL's are everywhere!

Talking More Albertans

Cool to see more Albertans on this site. Any recommendations as to shops that install Comptech parts in Edmonton? PS. At least the Flames will be getting a high draft pick this year.
