Lower grille for 2nd Gen

Hey, does anyone know of a company that makes a mesh grille for the lower opening on the 2nd gen TL's???
Has anyone attempted to make their own? If so, any info would be appreciated...

I believe that grill-tech has just come out with a grill for both the top portion and the bottom portion of the TL. www.grill-tech.com

Maybe if a lot of people are interested we could get a group buy goin...

I've made my own upper and lower grilles. The upper grill was a real bitch. I took the complete grill out and seperated the chrome trim and "A" emblem from the inner plastic of the grill. I bought some A.P.C. aluminum mesh from pep boys, trimmed it out to fit the outline of the plastic part of the grill, then sandwiched it in between the plastic and chrome trim piece, slapped it back together and topped it off with the "A" emblem.
The bottom piece was a little easier. I made a cardboard template to fit in the opening, then using the same aluminum mesh, I made the bottom piece. one other step I had to take was to make mounting brackets which wrap around the center black plastic of the lower bumper cutout.
When both were done, I used some chrome door edge trim and slid it over the edges to create a border. The top piece only needs one strip on top to meet up with the hood.
These directions may not make sense, but one look at a picture and you'll see what I mean.
If you have aol "AIM",check my profile some pics of the car are there. PISTACIO103179
rather than the grill being in-set on top, it sits flush with the headlights.

At grilletech.com, is the 01 TL's grill the same as the 02-03? They only have the grilles for the 02-03, but i HOPE that it is the same as the 01
but if it was interchangeable, :hitit:

I'm pretty sure they're not. The 01's sit little higher and appear to be narrower.

Looks nice! Like you said, it looks stock. Kindof hard to see that it even exists though since its dark under there and the grill itself is black ... The "race style" that grille-tech.com makes is more noticeable since its got a bit of a silverish reflection. Looks good regardless!

Check my sig for pics of my homemade grill, total cost $80 for both. Please check my other post on bottom of this thread for directions. Sorry they are late, I couldn't get them up before.
How do I get them to appear right on this page?(I'm a member of acura inspired)

Doesn’t it suck when bugs and debris ruin the bumpers and grills of our cars? I was thinking of getting my front bumper replaced or repainted…but then why bother because in a couple of weeks of driving it’ll look the same? How do you people protect or clean your bumpers of crap?

Hey pistacio - on your homemade lower grill, what did you make the brackets to hold the grill on with? Any help you could provide would be appreciated.

Thanks - I want to do this mod too!

It's a little hard to explain without showing them to you. I'll take one off and snap some pics of it then e-mail them to you. Is that cool?

I have anthracite also, I ordered sliver diamond. I like it better because you can see it better than the race. I think in some lights the race might look like you have a big pice of solid sliver metal behind your grille...

i had the same problem too, when i had time i tried installing it a second time. It was a bitch. It would of been easier with a second person holding it while you were securing it. BUt i got it installed..

I installed mine and thought it looked like crap, I thought securing it with zip ties didn't look so good. You can see the zip ties if you look close enough. I was thinking of taking off the whole grill and securing it somehow behind the vertical and horizontal plastic bars.

Did you have to use zip ties also or is there directions that come w/ this product?

yes i used the zip ties that came with it.. ONe thing i dont understand is that the zip ties were too short to install. Meaning if a little longer it would have been easier. I would just ask a buddy to help you hold the grille so you can concentrate getting the zip ties around the veritcal and horizontal bars or plastic whatever it is. You know what im talkin about for (02-03). But if you do it alone i would get longer zip ties.. much easier. But my concern with that is will the longer zip ties be more noticeable. Just try with ones that came with and see if you can do it. Remember if it doesnt look right you can always cut the zip ties and start over.. They give you like 10 zip ties. I only used 2

Hope this helps

Hey pistacio, nice touch with the blue lug nuts to match the car. That's one mod that won't work for me since I'm SSM. Nice job though.

Thanks, they were a gift. I didn't have locks when I bought the car so my bro bought those for me. I'm not sure if I completely like them. They kinda grew on me.

As far as you guys using zip ties, just make brackets. They are not hard to make at all. I can send you guys an e-mail with pics of mine if you want. I can't post them because I'm too lazy to upload them to my gallery.
