low whistling while turning steering wheel

First of all, thanks to those who helped me out and gave me some sage advice when I was going through a bad time with a cracked block. Much appreciated~ Thank you.

Onto my current problem. I did a search and couldn't really find much info on what i'm looking for.

- low whistling noise whilst turning the steering wheel

- doesn't get louder just because i'm turning the steering wheel more so you can say the noise is constant. whether i turn 5 degrees or to complete lock it's the same

- no CEL and i don't see a leak anywhere. Had a friend hop in the car and turn lock to lock while I was inspecting.

- fluid is Acura brand and was replaced over the summer. Still golden brown. With the car turned off, the fluid level sits only slightly below the upper level marker.

I did read potentially it could be the steering pump itself going bad. Forgive me if it's a stupid question but if this is the case, once the steering pump fails completely, would I be "dead in the water" with no steering? I'm quite concerned since I often have children in my car.

Any other likely reasons for the noise? I appreciate any input. Thank you~

I'm having a much more serious power steering problem. When I accelerate quickly or make a fast turn, the PS pump sounds like its pulling in air. It's very loud, and I was just relieved when I found out it wasn't from the engine.

Either way, from what I've researched, you should start with a PS pump repair kit. It give the materials to replace the O-rings on the pump. Apparently, our pumps are built well enough to outlast the O-rings.

As far as function goes, I think you'll be fine. If it's not that loud and still turns properly, I doubt it will break anytime soon.

However, if it does completely go out, I'm not sure how difficult or possible it would be to steer. Also, have you changed your belts recently? Only way I see the pump itself dying is if the PS belt is too tight.

the fluid level is too high on OPs car--needs to be in the middle range
look at it running and turning the wheels- you will understand
Use a turkey baster to remove excess fluid

the other poster with noise- I agree it may be oring,,they go bad, get the kit and try it

Replacement of fluid at 60kmiles rarely happens,, and issues from that crop up

for both- to burp/bleed air from the system:
place cardboard under front wheels to reduce friction
Start car in Park, and slowly turn wheel all the way to full lock then slowly all the way to the other side full lock--wont turn any farther, repeat several times
Thats burping it for you
Ck fluid level -top off as needed
DO NOT OVERFILL
why do you think there is a max line???

pump damage of bearing is often belt tightened too much during 105 service by untrained tech,,its a manual set and bolt tighten to adjust--not auto tensioner like the other belts have
