Looking for a place to install pulleys on Long Island

Can anyone recommend to me a shop on Long Island (or Queens) that is able to install UR pulleys? I've called a few local places and they all said they don't do pulleys. Is it that tough of a job? Also, how much should I pay for labor?

Thanks in advance.

gohan,

I am going to recommend RPM Racing in Hicksville. I've used them before and will use them again. They primarily work on European cars but they can fit you in like they did for me.

Phone number is 516-870-0351. Talk to Russ (owner) or Erik.

Address.....

196 Quality Plaza
Hicksville, NY 11801

They have a website as well.....www.rpmracinginc.com

Oh yea, they do not do walk ins. You have to call and set up an appointment.

Keep me posted on how it goes.

Thanks for the replies.

Excelerate, thanks for the offer. I'm willing to drive if it doesn't take more than an hour.

@sport, Thanks, I'll give them a call. They are pretty close to where I live. Do you know how much they charge for labor?

RPM is expensive, i believe their rates are around 96/hour. but they will do a good job and if something goes wrong they will take care of it. its a case of you get what you pay for.

gohan,

CleanCL hit it right on the head. RPM is very expensive but they do great work. $96 per hour is right.

I can give you the name of one more place. I will recommend it as well because this shop was started by the ex head mechanic (Taso is his name) of RPM Racing Inc. Taso has worked on my car before. RPM used to be located in Huntington Station and when they moved to their new facility in Hicksville, Taso stayed behind and started TKX Performance. He is a great mechanic. TKX primarily works on BMW and Porsche vehicles.

Give him a call as well. His prices will be lower than RPM's but you will have to drive a little further.

TKX Performance
130 Railroad Street
Huntington Station, NY 11746
Phone: 631-424-3640

Keep me posted.

I finally got the pulleys installed today at TKX Performance.

I called TKX and got a quote of $96/hr. I thought they were suppose to be cheaper than RPM, so I called up RPM and asked if they install pulleys, but sadly they said they don't do pulleys. So my only choice was TKX which was further and costs exactly the same as RPM.

Anyways, I paid $260 for the installation. The installation took about 2.5 hours cuz they couldn't get the bolts to come off. After they finally got it off, the installation went smoothly.

On the drive back home, the car felt smoother. The revs were faster and I definitely felt a difference in power. Not dramatic but definitely a difference. Some ppl say there might be some vibration at certain rpms but everything felt normal. The mechanic told me that he disconnected the battery, so the computer should learn faster. From what I've read on this site, I should feel more power after a week. Looking forward to see the final result.

In the end, I am very happy with the mod and installation. I will definitely recommend TKX since they did a great job and the guys who worked there were cool.

Gohan,

Thanks for the report back.

I'm surprised to hear that they charge 96 as well. I'll keep that in mind.

As long as you're happy with the job, it's worth it.

Geez, the only mechanic I'd ever go to over here in RI quoted me only $85 to install my pulley. .. he's legit and I've went to him before a few months back. I doubt you'd want to drive the 3 hours though to get here. lol

joe80055, I was really considering driving to CT to get the pulleys installed by Excelerate but I'd thought nah, save the gas money and 2 hour drive and go to a local place.

@sport, Although it was $96/hr, I think the owner (Taso) is willing to negotiate if you pay by cash.

I drove my car again today and noticed that my car idles at a lower rpm. It used to idle at around 750 rpm, and now it's between 250 and 500 rpm. Don't know if that will be an issue or not.

Other than that, feels the same as yesterday. Gotta give it more time.
