Question Lojack

Does anyone know how lojack works? Does where area near where your car gets stolen have to support it? Say your area police have lojack but your car is now 150miles away. Will they still be able to track it? Some people told me yes, others no. I dunno what to belive.

Also..Anyone know approx how much cheaper in $ your insurance becomes if you get it installed? Thanks

I wouldn't bother... the TL isn't easy to steal with the ignition shutoff... if you got a shock sensor then anyone trying to towing with a flatbed will have it going off as they drive.

i inquired this same thing about a year back when i bought mine, and what i was told is this: the cops generally have one car in every precinct that is equiped to track lojack signals, so chances are they'll be able to track it if ur far from home. however, they had a couple of cops from newark on the discovery channel i think, and they said its very difficult to track lojack in areas with tall buildings because the signal bounces of the walls, so they can be one block away and never find the car. also, my insurance said they will lower the rate by 10% if i had it installed. i think you need to check with your local agent. and actually i think that it is worth is if it gives you peace of mind. chances are ur car wont be stolen, but if they try and it helps, than its worth it.

just my 2c

I heard the cops after finding your car, will not recover it so that the crooks take it to their place of hidding, so they could recover more than just your car, but other stolen cars, and maybe even the crooks.

This is one of the things I thought about before I got my TL. I thought about Lojack but when I got info on Clifford Alarm System with built-in anticajacking Clifford would work better.I was less worried about tow truck stealing car then a person walking up to me with keys & jacking it. The anticarjacking will shut car off even if they take the car with keys & alarm remote.
The anticarjacking arms automaticaly all you have to is let the system know you are driving the car with a code. The only draw back to this system is if you have to leave it at a parking lot that a valet has to park it. The system would have to be put in the valet mode then the anticarjacking would be turned off.

I've had two cars recovered within hours with Lojack. One was an Integra and one was a Legend. Saved me a hell of a lot of money. Also, the insurance discount can be significant.

I have Lojack on my 01 TL, and paid $395 for it.

Sometimes it's better to not locate the car. I knew a guy a whose car was found stripped and they hardly gave him any money because he had his car back. He had to pay a lot more to fix it. Just claim it stolen and get a new one.
