Loaner cars
#7
I am going to get my first loaner car next Monday for the timing belt tensioner service. The service guy said I will get a loaner car from Enterprise, what does that mean? Does it mean I will not get a nice car from them?
BTW, the dealer is Acura of South Bay in Torrance, California, any one got loaner car from them before?

i got a 2004 Ford F150 a few weeks ago ( from Enterprise ) when I got my 15000 mile service / timing belt tensioner update.
the guy told me its cheaper for the dealership to rent a car than to give out their Acura inventory, as far as insurance liability is concerned.
i would have much rather had a TLS equivelent....

You know... I get **** from the dealer, cuz I bought my car in Manhattan, but get it serviced at Valley Stream on Long Island, and they tell me I dont qulify for a loaner since I didnt buy the car from them. Is it tru u gotta go back to your dealer to get a loaner? This is not fair! I aint driving to Manhattan just to get a loaner. This is what IMO this type of crap is what distingueshes Acura from the big players like Lexus and Benz, and BMW.

yea... a friend of mine bought an 03 SL500 ($100,000) from a benz dealer in Atlanta, and took it to another one for service, and got a friggin ford taurus as a rental. what **** right there. I have a loaner car right now. I have an 03 TLP. I've had 3 loaner cars from Acura Carland in Atlanta, which is by far the best dealership experience I've experienced. heres my loaner history:
03 TL-S
03 TL-P
03 TL-P
And for the record, I bought my car in Canada!!! They told me if my tranny died they'd still replace it for me even though my warranty is not valid here.

This is how Acura Corp tells the dealers to do it:
1: Never give an Acura is a rental will due. Their cheaper.
2: Persons between 21-25 cannot use an Acura loaner. (some dealers follow this, others dont)
3: Trannie swaps NEVER get a loaner. Only rental. Acura Corp is charging back the rental fees to tranny manufacturer.
This is how Acura says to do it. Not everyone follows this, but their supposed to.
Im 22 and have had an 03 TLP, an RSX, a TSX, a Saturn L series, Pontiac GrandAm, Ford Contour, Chevy Malibu, and a Dodge Stratus.
Ive never heard of a dealer refusing to give a loaner because you did not buy it from them. Thats b-u-l-l s-h-i-t and and i would put my foot in the ass of any service writer that told me that.

In speaking to a couple of Lexus dealers, they love giving loaners. Why? The cars sell themselves, especially the RX loaners. I hated the RX. After getting it for a loaner multiple times, it won me over and got my mother one. Now they have new RX 330 loaners. So now, I HATE getting loaners, cause it's like "oh ****, I want a new one".
Though they do not take much of a liking to people that bring in a 1990 LS 400 with 300,000 miles on a Friday afternoon and keep the loaner for the weekend.
You got to have tons of spare cars. I know Lexus is trying to cut costs, cause customers don't gas em back up for instance. That is tons of gas in a year.
My advice for Acura owners, develop a relationship with your dealer/serviceman, they'll look out for you.

"a Focus (through Enterprise)! :-( and the charged me like 10 or 15 bucks for insurance! That is terrible!"
You are lucky! My dealer keeps giving me some Italian cars (no clue where and how he gets them) with funny names like "Luncia" and "Maserati" - ha- ha!!!! The ride is descent, though....

My family's had nothing but expensive imports...primarily Lexus and BMW, and NEVER had an equivalent loaner. I don't think it's necessarily fair to diss acura based on that because the other three companies have a bolder name plate. My dad's last loaner was when he brought in his 02 M5 for a rattling problem...and they gave him a ford focus....he was pissed!!! And my mom brought her RX300 in quite a few times this past year, and she's gotten a focus, a corolla, and taurus. The ONE time I remember her taking in her 420SEL in WAY back in the day, I remember her getting a dodge neon from mercedes...if you wanna base the dealer reputation with loaner cars, then stay the hell away from the big three! My cousin brought his TL in to get a tranny replaced and they at least gave him a TSX for the week. Not trying to flame anyone, just trying to let everyone know if they think that paying damn near 6 figures for a car from BMW, Benz or Lexus is gonna get them upscale service, well....it's the furthest from the truth. I think a dealer decides on his/her own whether or not to hand out POS's as loaners. So if anything, blame the dealer, not the brand. Just my 2 cents...thanx!

Just curious, has anyone here ever demanded a certain loaner (RSX, MDX, etc) and the dealership complied?

Dont know what crappy dealerships your family bought these cars from but every time my dad takes his 7 series in he comes home with at least a 5 series, everytime my mom takes her lexus rx 330 in she comes home with the same as a loaner car...dealership must blow or something to give out such pieces of $hit as a loaner.

I always liked getting the POS for a loaner. Some say it is more fun to drive a slow car fast then it is to drive a fast car slow. Plus when it is all over, it feels so good to get back in your ride.
