Lip Kit Is getting painted. Questions
So I went to the shop to drop off my lip kit to get painted. I'm getting them painted for 200 duckets.
I also asked how much it would be for them to paint AND install and told me 350. :thumbsdow And on top of that they said they would have to leave it overnight to install!
I obviously just let them paint it. I'll pick em up and install em myself, I can't see my self Wasting 150 on just installing them.
Who here has installed the whole lip kit. How long did it take? I will do this in the cold so I dont want to be out there too long. Is it simple? I have the Instructions and all the brackets and bolts to install them.
Another question. I asked if he could paint the door handles, chrome trim around my windows, and outer grill. He said yes but it will prolly start flaking off in a couple of months. Do you think if I take it somewhere else they wont say that and get the job done right? I'm pretty sure with some sanding of those chrome pieces, the paint will stick well.
Thanks.

VERY simple
i'm gonna say the whole thing will take atleast 30-hour assuming its OEM lip kit..
i had to drill the holes for the front and rear(i had wingswest) sides i just lifted the rear.. took off the rear wheels and gave the rear end of the side skirts a good whack with a rubber mallet after taking off those clips and screws on the front.. haha
if the painter says it will peel, take it to another place.. all it takes is sanding it down and painting it.. not that hard at all.

its easy but in the cold it might take a while. You can install the front lip without taking off the bumper but I took mine off, bolted everything, bumper would rip off before my lip does. Side skirts are a pain though, you are supposed to be able to just slide it off but that never works for me so I just ripped them off. Most of the tabs were still ok to use. Rear I did it without taking off the bumper. good luck

easy...just make sure you have the tools ready..mallet(to remove stock side skirts) and clips/bolts to put on the front and rear
I took off my front and rear bumpers when installing the lips took longer but I didnt have to struggle putting it on while under the car

I just did my oem front and sides Sunday. I pulled the front bumper and it was so much easier. The 2002-2003 front needed 9 holes drilled to secure it. The sides were a pain in the ass. It took 3 of us pulling and pushing. I'm lucky we did it at work were I put on a lift. I get my WW back tomorrow and I'm going to pull the bumper to install it. I had to replace several of the 2 part retainers that hold the plastic piece over the radiator and the lower splash shields. Hope this helps.

When i asked my bodyshop about painting the chrome trim he said that it would be a pain because for the rear quarter panel windows the trim is attached to the window. I assume you would have to hold the black rubber up while you try to get paint to go underneath it. Might not turn out too good. I've read on here ppl using a sort of tape that u apply to the trim instead of painting it. ill try to find the link. btw i have a 2nd gen cl so not sure if tl is same.

I really didn't look much but it seems like all the chrome that needs to be painted on the outer window trim is exposed. (the doors need to be open to get to all of the chrome. I'll have to look at the smaller window in the back to see how that is.
Can anybody post pics of 2nd Gen TL's with the chrome pieces matched to body color?

friend of a friend type thing...he did my quarter panel to when i scraped it with a tree....n my bumper from parking dings n fender from broken axle..yea i been thru alot
....lemme kno if u want his number....one bad thing tho....he use to hav this room for painting sucked up the air n heaters..but he doesnt anymore.. hence why the 4th door didnt come out good...he is redoin tho..im waitin for spring...
i suggest u get vinyl for the trim around the doors... search the threads ... a vendor not affiliated with azine came on the site when we talked about a while back....i think it was 40 but a 4'x2" which is kinda could enough....but its better to get a long one for the top..and some of the short ones for each door....or just one really long one...

It's not that easy to paint chrome pieces and chances are that they will peel.
The sides come off real easy if you jack up the car and pull the rear wheel off.
Once you get the underside push clips off and the screws in the front; pull on the bottom of the skirt, away from the car (pull on the skirt in the part closest to the rear wheel) until you see that the skirt will clear the lower part of the quarter panel. Then give it 2 or 3 good hits with a rubber mallet, and the skirt will slide right off. The white clips will stay on the car. Use your hands or some pliers to turn then clip 1//4 turn and pull out.
NOTICE which way the tabs on the skirts face. I don't remember if they face up or down.
Then put the clips on your new skirt and line up the clips to the whole and push the skirt until it clips into place.
If you don't want to pull the tires off, you can also take a piece of wood and wedge it between the tire and skirt and when you pull the skirt away, use the piece of wood to 'pry' the skirt forward.
