lets get the facts straight.

well this is the story. my uncle has a 1992 acura legend and he recently got a 2004 mdx. He keeps saying how my 2003 tls is the same car as his old legend. how it has the same engine with the same amount of horsepower as his legend 4 speed sedan. Im like wtf and i am dumbfounded by the comments he makes. there isnt any truth to this right? i mean how can a 1992 have any similarities with a 03? also they are complete different cars.

this is also the man who thinks this.

the crappier the car, basically kia,geo metro,etc... the better gas it needs (premium 91 octane) and the nicer the car (tl,benz,bimmers,etc...) the crappier the gas needs to be. since the car has a better engine and such.
all i say is wow, because he is so stubborn and thinks everything he says is right.

the second part of "your friends comment are stupid"....expensive cars need crappy gas???

But, the first part of his statement is right and wrong.... The legend is the predecessor to the TL, but I do not see any similarities to the 1992 Acura Legend, the later models (95-98) do have similarities, I think they did initially share the same frame and overall moldings (with 1998), but after 1998, the Legend was discontinued and the the second generation TL was born..... 1999 was the birth of the 2nd generation TL..... hope this clarifies your inquiry....

Funny, I have an Uncle just like that. Anyhow, tell your Uncle that the TL replaced the Vigor, and the RL replaced the Legend. Aside from both being Acuras, FWD, and V6, the Legend and TL are not the same. I recently sold my '03 TL-S and purchased a '93 Legend LS Coupe 6spd w/ only 12K miles, basically a new car. The only thing I miss from my TL-S is the quieter motor, the color Anthracite Metallic w/blk lthr and more legroom in the rear...

hey indo are you saying the legend was discontinued in 98? 95 is the actual year the legend was discontinued.

hey dole there was a 95 white legend coupe that was for sale that had only 5000 miles on it. the car was brand new basically. some guy from the legend board bougth the car for like 20 something thousand i think.my first 2 cars were legends(87 and 91), and i loved both. a couple of months earlier i was thinking about buying a 4dr 95 legend. the acura legend is a legend in my books.

Actually, it was a '94 Legend LS coupe w/ 6523 miles and it went for around $25K. If you can find a '94/'95 Legend GS Sedan 6spd w/ low miles and in good condition, I say jump on it! Legends never die...

I had a '93 Legend, and a 2001 TL, a 2002 TLS, and a 2004 TL. I can tell you that the Legend while being a fine car in it's day, doesn't compare to the TL except for the fact that it's an Acura, and has a V-6 Honda engine. They are totally different cars. I loved the Legend, and in fact, the paint quality of the Legend was much better than any of the TL's I've owned. Other than the paint, the TL is a superior car in every aspect. Just my .02cents.

The Legend and the TL are completely different cars. The Legend was manufactured in Japan, while the TL is made in Ohio. If you look at the wheel base of the two cars, the Legend is a longer car than the TL.

Like people have said above, the Acura Vigor is the TL's former name. And the Acura Legend lives on under the RL designation (although without a coupe, and not nearly as legendary).

The Acura RL is still called the Honda Legend in Japan. (Just as a note, the 2nd Gen Acura TL is the Honda Inspire/Saber in Japan, and there is no 3rd Gen Acura TL in Japan right now).

Hope this helps! Sounds like what your uncle is trying to say is that any Honda V6 is the same car. That would make his MDX the same as his old Legend. Its also like saying the Honda Civic coupe, S2000 and Acura RSX are all virtually the same car

There are a lot of striking resemblences between the tl and legend. The two cars are very much alike. sit inside a legend, then sit in a tl, the radios are almost identical, the dash, all the controls, even look where the sunroof switch is. they are pretty much the same damn car!!! Get over it, the legend wasn't a bad car!!! THE TL IS THE LATEST VERSION OF THE LEGEND!!!!

Ummm, just because they have a few buttons in the same place doesn't make them the same car. A Honda Civic might have its signal blinker in the same spot as my TL, but they're definitely not the same cars.

IMHO these interiors do not look that similar other than the fact that some things may be in the same place (radio in the same places, etc):

2003 Acura TL:

1991 Acura Legend:

BTW- I'm not knocking the Legend. I think the Legend was a great car, and to this day the name Acura Legend remains etched in many people's minds as Acura's first and greatest car ever. However, when someone says that a 10+ year old Legend is exactly the same car as the UA5 TL ... well I'd have to disagree there. They maybe similar and share some minor things like button placement because they're both made by Honda, but again its like saying the Civic and the TL are the same cars. 2 different cars manufacturered at 2 completely different plants 10+ years apart and marketed at 2 different price points / demographics. Sorry, but as much as you'd like to think so .. they're not the same.

Show the pic of the new TL w/o the navigation, the damn A/C control pannel is exactly the same, you are blind if you can't see the similiarities, and you're living in denial. THE TL IS THE SAME CAR, JUST A LITTLE DIFFERENT BODY. Go drive a Legend then go drive a TL, you are rediculous if you think the cars don't have a striking resemblence.

Even with the newborn, I could swing the payments on the '03 TL-S. However, I just didn't want to anymore. I owed a little over $19Gs on my '03 TL-S and sold it for close to $26Gs in stock form. I jumped into a '93 Legend Coupe LS 6spd with only 11,8xx miles. The overall condition was comparable to my TL-S. PLUS, I've always wanted a Legend Coupe LS, 6spd at that. Oh yeah, my payments are about $300 less per month, saved on insurance, registration, and dropped a year of payments. I didn't even look back...

Why don't you dig up and post the pictures since you're the one making this implausible claim? I've never been in a Legend, so I'm prepared to be open-minded here. But the burden of proof is on you (and we're not talking about a new TL -- that is, 3rd generation).

obviously we're not talking about a new TL here, but it is to be "assumed" seeing as how we're in the 2nd gen forum. If you have never been in a legend, how are you even in this thread? that's like talking about how bad meat tastes when you've never had it. But I'm willing to bet that you've eaten meet, you know what i mean.
