exactly. i dont know what you guys are doing just to save a few dollars.. better performance and just running on what youre supposed to.. imean if you think about it, youre saving close to 2 dollars by using a way lower octane than factory reccommended

BP Ultimate 93 or Sunoco 93
90% city, 10% highway
300 miles when light comes on - every time (usually equates to 22/23mpg) Have gotten 30mpg on long trips.

Yuu'll defenatly see a differance in performance and in getting better MPG Try and POst the Reply Just one time and you will never go back again!!! my dad has 2000 TL and he used 89 Octane and I told him try 91 and even if it's more expensive it's still better because it gives you better MPG and also I heard that 87 burns faster than 91 or 93. anyways go head and try both 87 MPG or for the full tank and 91 MPG and for full tank!!!

i just tried 93 octane BP. cold formula.. but once again fell under one of the worst gas mileages on this forum. the Gas tank empty light came when i hit 215 miles. UGH gas it killing me. i just filled up at Mobil, costed me $30.25.. freakin 2 dollars per gallon is annoying too. but yeahh.. hopefully it'll give me a better mileage than BP

2002 CL-S @ 88k miles
I usually use Shell 93 or Sunoco 93
85% City / 15% Highway
I usually get 220-250 before the gas light turns on,

A recent road trip to Pitt I got 390 miles till the light came on.

I'm supercharged too so my fuel consumption is a little more than the rest of you guys

Not really unheard of though. Set the cruise control to 70-75 MPH and you'll get gas mileage like that all day long.

i agree with this reasoning since its only a 10 cent difference between the middle and premium gas in CA and it only adds up to a couple more dollars.

its funny about some of the members on this board...theyre anal about what kind of motor oil to put in the TL, but when it comes to gas, they'll put in gas with an octane rating other than that RECOMMENDED and TOLD by acura. the gas is like food for the engine, what you put in is what you'll get out of it.

JUST SPEND A FEW EXTRA BUCKS!

Ken is right guys, you can get away with running 87 or 89 octane with no problem. The ECU will retard timing to prevent detonation with the lower octane rating. You only need to run premium fuel if you want the most performance.

Drove from Allentown to Boston this past Christmas on Mobile premium (92 or 93 octane) in a TL-S. Think it was a little over 300 miles on a half tank. Even went through NYC to pick up a passenger.

Instead of telling us the miles per 'tank' which is meaningless, take the number of miles driven and divide it by the number of gallons you put in to come up with miles per gallon.

Some guys in 03+ Accords are getting 35 mpg in their J30's

I think the "record" in my driving of the '03 is 34 mpg on a long straight road at high altitude in eastern Oregon at about 70 mph.

Anyone notice too, that the Clean/Dirty CAI was about a 10% difference in miles too? Don't cheap out on stuff like keeping the car running its best.

A single tank of gas isn't really enough to say a certain companies gas sucks for milage either I don't think. If it causes you to ping, then yes, but give it a few tanks worth of gas and get an average on the milage over a few tanks. My MPG varies a bit from tank to tank on my first gen, because of slight changes in driving.

It seems like gas milage is always a huge problem, but it never seems like people are willing to go through all the possible causes of why its so bad and fix them. Even easy and free things like tire pressure and driving a bit more conservatively.

The best way to do milage is how MikePA said, miles/gallon, since that is of course what it is measured in. I can't imagine that the low fuel light comes on with the exact same amount of fuel left every time, and even at higher levels like half a tank, there is a variation.

Another thing, I thought that it was bad to let your gas get as low as some of you guys seem to, because it can stir up all the crap on the bottom of the tank and more of it will end up in the system?

I dunno, I keep up on my maintnance and my milage is fine.

97 2.5TL
135,000 miles
Random 89/93 mix from Shell/Hess/Small Local Places
Driving...its town driving, not city, not highway.
21 MPG right now, 24 MPG over the fall (need to fix tire pressure [tires lose pressure as air temperature drops] and get the air filter switched out though)

Well your right about MPG instead of total miles but everytime i fill the tank it takes around 15 GALLONS ..... and when the light comes on I drive around 20 miles if it's city or 30 if freeway befor refill

I couldn't calculate my damn mileage if I wanted to... my fuel sending unit is fucked I believe. I have all kinds of grief with it. But I ran that car down to the last bit today, and it only filled up to 12.5 gallons. I also added a second treatment of Redline Fuel Treatment, which I did for the previous tank as well. I fill it up with mid-grade here in Atlanta for about 1.84 a gallon.

YOu better go and get your car checked up because normally it fills up to 15-16 gallons of gas...

All you need to calculate mpg is your odometer.

Yea, but I dont want to run out of gas, so I always fill up the car when its on E... and I dont know how much gas I really have left, cause the sending unit is fucked I think.

To determine mpg;

1. Fill tank until the fill nozzle automatically shuts off.
2. Reset one of the trip odometers to 0
3. Drive car until gauge is on E, or close to it.
4. Fill tank until fill nozzle automatically shuts off.
5. Divide the mileage on trip odometer (zeroed in Step 2) by the gallons of gas just purchased to determine mpg.

Whether or not your sending unit is accurate is irrelevant, how much gas is left in your tank is irrelevant.

when i fill my car up it only takes around 13-14 gallons before the pump auto shuts it off

i got 275 miles to my last tank before the light went on, so 275 divided by 13.5= approx 20mpg

yes i know its TL talk, but i'm interested in what you guys get.

You can read about my post here

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167685

if you dont want to read about it

01 CLS
51000miles.

75%highway 25% town

Last weekend 480miles on a full tank to 10miles driven after gas light comes on.

I know i would easily get over 500miles with 100% HW driving
